NONTHABURI, 1 May 2015 – The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) has check the retail of school equipments ahead of the “back to school” campaign, taking place until 10 May 2015, while stressing vendors to clearly put up price tags and signs on all items.

After checking the sales of school items in the government run “back to school” campaign at Tesco Lotus Khae Rai shopping center in Nonthaburi, the DIT Director-General Boonyarit Kalayanamit has said that many people are interested in purchasing school uniforms, stationary, and consumable items at this event.

The campaign, running at many department stores across Thailand from 30 April to 10 May 2015, features up to 70 percent discount on school uniforms, stationary, and electronic appliances. The campaign has been initiated due to the government’s request that manufacturers must sell their products at a special price to welcome the new academic semester.

The price for student uniforms are still reported at normal rates, while the Ministry of Commerce is monitoring the price movement of consumable products such as vegetable oil, eggs, and cooking gas.

Sellers have also been asked to place price labels for the items on sale to give buyers clear information, while unfair price hikes and neglect of price labels are punishable by law.
