Consular Affairs main office resumes full passports service

BANGKOK, 3 June 2014 – The Consular Affairs Department’s main office on Chaeng Watthana Rd. in Bangkok recommenced full service on Monday after months of on and off service due to anti-government protests.

Thongchai Chansawat, director-general of the department, revealed that people started arriving at the department’s main office since early morning to get their passport requests processed.

According to Mr. Thongchai, the department can currently issue 8,000 passports per day and is looking to expand capacity to 20,000 passports per day. He also said that people will get their passports within 4 working days after visiting the offices of the department.

Members of the public can still visit the passport offices in Bang-na and Pinklao; however, the temporary office at Esplanade shopping mall has already been closed, the director-general added.

The department’s website providing online service for passport queue reservation is still in operation.
