BANGKOK – The central committee on prices of goods and services under the Ministry of Commerce has resolved to keep 41 items under its price control while product prices this year are expected to stay at the same levels as in 2015.

After chairing this year’s first meeting of the central committee on prices of goods and services, Commerce Minister Apiradee Tantraporn said among the issues discussed were the regulation of product prices, price trends, assistance measures for consumers and the development of community markets. She said the committee laid stress on vendors’ cooperation in using packaging that is appropriate for the size of the product and clearly displaying prices to customers.

As for the review of the price control list, which previously contained 41 products and services, the central committee agreed to keep the list unchanged. The listed items comprise those under various categories, such as food, consumer products, agricultural materials, construction materials, transport equipment, petroleum products and medicines.

The committee is also ready to review the list of products and services under close monitoring. The decisions on both lists will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval next week.

Ms Apiradee gave assurances that the Commerce Ministry will continue to ensure fairness in product pricing. As operators have affirmed they are not intent on adjusting their prices any time soon, the minister expressed confidence that product prices will remain rather stable this year.
