The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Chiang Mai University is opening a new horseback riding therapy or hippotherapy center on January 8, 2017.

Hippotherapy, also known as equine assisted therapy, has proven to be very helpful for special needs children, it is a form of physical therapy whereby the movement of the horse affects a rider’s posture, balance, and coordination and has been found to promote physical, occupational, and emotional growth. The therapy can also be used for adults suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder as well as brain injuries and many other issues.

Special needs children benefit from hippotherapy by forming emotional bonds as well as developing coordination and balance.
