BANGKOK, 11 December 2014 – The spokesman of the Constitutional Drafting Committee has revealed that one of the council’s sub-committees has proposed the setting up of a people’s council to inspect the works of the government.

CDC spokesman Kamnoon Sidhisamarn said that the eighth sub-committee overseeing the rule of law and court affairs, which is chaired by Mr. Paiboon Nititawan, has proposed a more active process to inspect the works of the government through the setting up of a council that is represented by Thais from 77 provinces.

The eighth sub-committee believes that a new people’s council will be instrumental in checking on local administrative offices or organizations and their chiefs.

It stressed that the addition of a new council will compliment the responsibilities of all independent agencies, the House of Representatives and the Senate that are already in charge of inspecting holders of political office and government officials.
