BANGKOK, 8 May 2015 – The Cabinet yesterday signed two memorandums of understanding (MOU) on the supply of natural gas and energy purchasing deal with Myanmar over the course of 10 years.

The Cabinet has green-lighted the Energy Ministry to sign 2 MOUs with Myanmar. The first MOU is for the latter to supply Thailand with natural gas and liquid natural gas (LNG) for 3 years. At the moment, Thailand is consuming 1 billion cubic feet of natural gas supplied by Myanmar daily. This MOU also seeks to build an LNG warehouse in Myanmar to play safe in case the LNG supply could not be delivered to the Kingdom.

The other MOU is in relation to a 10-year plan to buy electricity from Myanmar.

The Cabinet has also approved a solar rooftop pilot project, which would help generate a portion of energy for national consumption.
