Ayutthaya to host World Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony and Miracle Muay Thai Festival

AYUTTHAYA, 11 March 2012  – Ayutthaya province will play host to the World Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony and Miracle Muay Thai Festival, which will see boxers from over 40 countries strutting their stuff and billions of baht in revenue. 

Ayutthaya Governor Wittaya Phewpong has announced that the ancient capital has joined hands with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Association of Thai Martial Arts Institutes, the Professional Boxing Association of Thailand, and other relevant agencies organizing the World Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony and Miracle Muay Thai Festival during 17-22 March in order to honor and promote this celebrated form of Thai martial arts. Boxers from over 40 countries across the globe have expressed their enthusiasm to participate in the event.

During 17-18 March, boxing matches between Thai and foreign boxers and a Wai Kru Ceremony will be held at the Ayutthaya Tourism Center (ATC) . Additionally, there will be a demonstration of the art of Thai tattoo and the forging of traditional Aranyik swords. At the same time, at Mahathat Temple, there will be a demonstration of Thai-styled martial arts.

During 19-22 March, at the Nai Kanom Tom Statue in the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Stadium, there will be movies, live music, Muay Thai arts demonstrations, local product sales as well as an international boxing tournament.

The World Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony and Miracle Muay Thai Festival is expected to generate income for the local community as well as bring in a cash flow of billions of baht to Thailand.
