ASEAN working team plans roadmap for smog free Chiang Mai

The Minister of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment held a meeting with the ASEAN Working team to plan an ASEAN Roadmap for a smog free Chiang Mai. The meeting participants included senior representatives and permanent secretaries of Ministry/Director General, and Operation workers from ten ASEAN members and representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and from relevant organizations relating to prevention and problem solving of wildfire and smog of Thailand.

General Surasak Kanchanarat, Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment chaired a meeting attended by senior officials and representatives from ten ASEAN countries to tackle the smoke problem that plagues South East Asia annually.

The meeting held on March 7, 2016, at Holiday Inn Chiang Mai Hotel was chaired by General Surasak Kanchanarat, Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment who said that this meeting was a cooperative effort between ASEAN members to sustainably solve and prevent the smog issues that plague the region annually. The meeting was held between March7 – 9, 2016 and was in line with the Cabinet resolution to solve the smog problem in nine Northern provinces. A budget of 93 million baht budget was approved for the efforts. Part of the reason for holding the working team meeting in Chiang Mai was for local officials to meet and learn from other AEC member countries.
