PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, August 11, Burapha A & B – Stableford

Five groups of Outbackers played Burapha in cool conditions with a light breeze blowing.  We played A and B from the longer blue tees and whilst there were two complaints about the length of the course (bearing in mind that 33 or 34pts round here is handicap) 30 percent of the field played to their handicap or beat it.

Sugar Ray returned to form to not only win Div B with 39pts but he took the Kiwis’ money which really cheered him.  The improving John Fitzgerald was second with 36 and Bruce Mcadam third with 34, so watch out for those two in a week or so’s time in Hua Hin.

Jim Brackett won the top division with 37pts to make his statement about his Hua Hin chances and the recently returned John Cunningham edged out John Low on c/b with 34 for second.

We said a brief “Hello” to S K Kwok who turned up to play by surprise and also to Vince Butler who was just passing through, as he often does.

Tony Aslett had the only ‘2’.

Div A (0–16)

1st Jim Brackett (08) 37pts

2nd John Cunningham (07) 34pts

3rd John Low (12) 34pts

Div B (17+)

1st Sugar Ray Handford (20) 39pts

2nd John Fitzgerald (18) 36pts

3rd Bruce McAdam (26) 34pts

Wednesday, August 13, Laem Chabang – Stableford

Even after some late withdrawals, we still had a good field of five groups to play the magnificent Laem Chabang, this time starting on the tough C loop before moving on to A.

The handicaps were too uneven to split into two divisions so we played in one division with podium places down to sixth.

Welcome to some new boys today, namely Graeme Smart, Owen Gray, Tony Hoare, Ken Graham and Steve Vash and welcome back to Martin Burbidge and Gary Oliffe.

The scoring was not that brilliant but the ever-consistent John Low, who has just about avoided the handicapper for his entire trip, was the winner on c/b with 34pts from Kim Danboise.  Thierry Temine was third with 33 whilst John Fitzgerald, Martin Burbidge and Martin Kingswood all had 32.

We said goodbye to Kiwis, John Low, Dion Lane and Carl who is just starting the game and didn’t return a card and we will see you next year guys.

We are not at Laem Chabang for the next couple of weeks as we play the Race2Bkk final at Thai Country Club on the 20th and the following week we are in Hua Hin, when the only scheduled golf will be Monday 25th at Burapha.

Pierre Bietry (C5) and Martin Burbidge (C8) both had ‘2’s.

1st John Low (12) 34pts

2nd Kim Danboise (15) 34pts

3rd Thierry Temime (25) 33pts

Friday, August 15, Green Valley – Stableford

On a slightly overcast day 36 players turned out to battle it out with the course.  Today we had the third in our series of monthly better-ball events and six of our regulars invited their caddies to play as their partners.  The caddies played really well, in some cases better than their partners, but we had the last laugh when we said to one caddie, “Why did you miss that putt?  I said one ball left and you go one ball right”.  Oh how the worm can turn!

We had a great day and it is always a delightful sight to see the caddies all spruced up and ready to show the boys how good they are.

Once again the course was in good condition and a challenge to all levels of golfers.  The greens were very fast and putts were missing the holes as the greens had been cut that morning.

The winners were Ted Gardner and his caddie Noy, who I believe is his wife, with 45pts.  After them came two more teams on the same score – Thierry and Sang and then Brian Wilkinson and Sugar.  In fourth place were Kerry Beck and his caddie (Ti) with 42 points.  The other caddie to finish on the podium was Paew, who played with Tim Knight.

1st Ted Gardner & Noy 45pts

2nd Thierry Temime & Sang 45pts

3rd Brian Wilkinson & Sugar Ray Handford 45pts

4th Kerry Beck & Ti 42pts

5th Bruce McAdam & Keith Dyson 42pts

6th Murray Hart & Dennis Pelly 41pts

7th Tim Knight & Paew 40pts
