PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society

Monday, May 18, Pleasant Valley – Stableford

With five groups on the starting sheet we headed off to Pleasant Valley on this fine and hot Monday morning.  Our first group got away just a few minutes before our scheduled 10.05am tee time and with no-one in sight ahead of us we proceeded at a good pace.

The golf course was not in as good shape as it usually is, with some very “ordinary” greens and your writer did struggle adapting to things after my recent laser eye surgery but had an enjoyable day anyway with good company.  With no hold-ups we managed to complete our round in three hours & fifty minutes.

In the men’s flight it was Takeshi Hakozaki who stole the show and won with a fine 38 points, while also winning all three novelty awards.  Christian Boysen was once again on the podium and finished second with 34 points and Lionel Rowles took out third spot with 31.

With several ladies in the field we had a separate ladies flight which was well won by Thientong Charoenrung who scored an excellent 39 points.

Wednesday, May 20, Eastern Star – Stableford

Not huge numbers but a quality field for a long awaited visit to Eastern Star and the weather was fine but quite hot.  We got away right on time at 10.00am and with the course practically deserted we were able to get around the course in the very good time of three hours & forty five minutes.

The golf course was looking good (although some fairways were a bit dry) and the greens were quite ok.

With two golfers on 33 points a count back was required to decide the winner and that resulted in first place being awarded to Oddur Olafsson (18 point back nine, 12 points on the last 6 holes & 7 points on the last 3 holes), with Thientong Charoenrung (18 point back nine, 12 points on the last 6 holes & 5 points on the last 3 holes) in second spot.  The colourful Walter Baechli finished third with 32 points.

1st Oddur Olafsson (13) 33pts

2nd Thientong Charoenrung (18) 33pts

3rd Walter Baechli (15) 32pts

Long Putts: 18th – Thientong Charoenrung

Friday, May 15, Phoenix (Mountain & Ocean) – Stableford

Once again it was our “Friday’s at Phoenix” game and your writer sat this one out but we had a reasonable amount of players on the starting sheet.  The golfers teed off around 11.00am on another hot day and it was reported that the course was again in fine “nick” with the greens getting better.

Yet again it was the Boss, Christian Boysen who stole the show and was the winner with a fine 38 points, 3 points ahead of Steve Truelove in second while Dave Neal came third on 32 points.

1st Christian Boysen (13) 38pts

2nd Steve Truelove (9) 35pts
