PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, June 23, Burapha – Stableford

Four groups played the C and D loops on a cloudy day with a cooling wind.  We welcomed back Dave Buchanan after a long absence and congratulated him on becoming a father during that time.

The course was nearly empty as is usual at the moment but in top condition.  Pete Stonebridge brought is ‘A’ game today, scoring a great 42pts to win by five points over the consistent Peter Nixon on 37.  Bob Mattes came third with 35 and scratch marker, Dave Buchanan fourth with 34pts.

Tuesday, June 24, Laem Chabang – Stableford

A disappointing number of Outbackers played this renowned Nicklaus course, with just 11 on the C & B nines at Laem Chabang, but fortunately they were lucky enough to tee off after some heavy rain and have a dry round.

Even though only the one division, Andre Coetzee and Ron Dickie elected to play from the longer blue tees whilst the remainder were on the more regular whites, but the power of Andre off the tee was enough to put him in good stead to take second place with 34pts.  Rob Barnes, who has been playing well of late, was the day’s winner with a creditable 36pts, with Steve Durey back in third on 32.

There were no ‘2’s.

1st Robert Barnes (13) 36pts

2nd Andre Coetzee (08) 34pts

3rd Steve Durey (20) 32pts

Wednesday, June 25, Khao Kheow – Stableford

You could hardly blame the two late withdrawals leaving a small field at Khao Kheow today on the A & B nines.  The journey to the course was pretty miserable, with heavy showers and poor visibility and it did look very unlikely that any golf would be played.  However, we sat and waited for about half an hour at the course with a couple of beers and it began to brighten up; ten minutes later we paid our green fee and were on the course.

Surprisingly, the course had stood up to the rain well and was in good condition, although were patches of GUR both on the fairways and the greens.  Apart from another light shower around the turn, we enjoyed a very pleasant round in cool conditions with Barnsey following yesterday’s win at Laem Chabang, with another win here, this time with 39pts.  Greg Hill took the only other podium place with 38 and General Jack just missed out with 36.

Rob Barnes got the only ‘2’ on B8.

1st Robert Barnes (13) 39pts

2nd Greg Hill (19) 38pts

Friday, June 27, Green Valley – Stableford

Green Valley had a members’ competition on today so we opted to play Silky Oak instead of the other alternate, St Andrews.  23 Outbackers participated in today’s game.

The course was in good condition although the greens were slow and we played from the whites, which are the forward tees as there is many a hole which you need to carry the water hazards.  This course just loves golf balls, and talking about golf balls it is so easy to play the wrong ball even if you have marked it and that is why you should always take a look (David) before you decide to play someone else’s ball as it will cost you.

A big thank you to Kerry Beck who sponsored the near pins today as it was his birthday a couple of weeks ago and thanks also for helping to get the boys and girls away off the first tee.

Jimmy Little recorded the day’s top score of 39pts to win Div A by two from Kerry in second (37) and Dennis Pelly took third with 36, beating JP Maffray on count back.

In Div B, Andy Makara’s 36pts was enough to win from Greg Hill and Nuan Keddie.

There were a bundle of ‘2’s from Barry McIntosh, Kim Danboise & KerryBeck (5th), Paul Greenaway & Nuan Keddie (7th), Bob Finley (14th) and Jimmy Little (16th).

Div A (0–18)

1st Jimmy Little (18) 39pts

2nd Kerry Beck (11) 37pts

3rd Dennis Pelly (13) 36pts

Div B (19+)
