PSC Golf from the Growling Swan

Monday, Feb. 23, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Nineteen punters gathered today looking forward to playing after a three day break.  The yellow tees were used with the A & C nines being the challenge.  The weather was warm and the course in great condition, however no one was able to play to their handicap.

Jim Groves handed in thirty five points to stand atop the podium whilst Gary Monley scored thirty three and was given a standing ovation.  Ebrahim ran third, also with thirty three, whilst John Anderson on and Alan ‘Colonel’ Sanders rounded out the podium.

Beau Roberts collected the Coveted Compass Cap.

Thursday, Feb. 26, Eastern Star – Monthly Mug

There is something about stroke play days that puts a spring in one’s step, as 32 spritely golfers rocked up in readiness for the Growling Swan’s February Monthly Mug event.

Eastern Star’s friendly staff greeted us ever so politely and the course and greens were presented in great nick.  Set in an old coconut plantation, this popular course features wide fairways, many lateral water hazards and OB’s to punish a hook or slice.  We played off the yellow tees and thankfully the weather conditions were very pleasant, with the ‘Rayong Doctor’ cooling breeze bringing welcome relief.

The lovely Seesa had a great day out and won the ‘Mug’ with a leg in the air.  Stu Rifkin, JC Lhoste, Jim Carlson and Bill Steinman all returned to some form and made the podium, however numerous others only provided comic relief.  Comic for others, that is!  Sandy Leiper hit 7 off the tee on the par-5 fourth and together with Andrew Allen rounded up a ‘herd of mooses’.  Russell Calcutt, in his own words, “butchered the par 4’s, the par 5’s and the par 3’s” whilst Dave Fletcher was flushed and excited after spotting Sandra Gal on the next fairway.  Fletch was quickly reminded that Sandra was at Siam C.C., not Eastern Star.
