Monday, November 21, Pattana – Stableford

It was our club championship week with a 36 hole competition over two days on Wednesday and Friday so the majority were saving themselves, hence only 19 players out today. 

The A course here reopens on Dec 1 so it was the B and C nines yet again and in both divisions 37 points was the winning score with Jim Connelly taking podium position in division 1, beating the Norwegian boy Sassa on a 21/15 back nine countback, while Harold G was third on 36.  Marty Aronson topped division 2, with Richard Kings second on 32 points, beating Eugine Maguire on a 20/19 count back.

Kari Kuparinen birdied B3 and B7 and Chris Voller B3 to share the pot in the ‘2’s in division 1 while Jef Van Uffelen get a ‘2’ on C2 to take the division 2 prize.

Wednesday, November 23, Eastern Star – The Club Championship (round 1)

Our 5th annual Club Championship and we have pondered over the years as to which golfing format to use and still everyone is happy with a two-day stableford competition.  There were four divisions out today including the ladies and the cut in division 1 was at 6-15, division 2 (16-19) and 20+ in division 3.  Many thanks to Georgio at the Trattoria Italiana restaurant here in Jomtien for sponsoring all the technical prizes today, well done Georgio.

Playing off 14, Neville Scurrell came in with 39 points to win division 1 with Marty Rock on a 10 handicap coming second with 37 points, and Chris Voller in third on 31.

Mike Lewis took out division 2 with 39 point as well, with Frank Kelly in second place on 34 and Count back Burnie third two points behind.

Paul Chabot topped the scales in division 3 with 38 points, with Bryan Priestley second two points behind and in the biggest surprise of the day, the organizer came in third with 33 points.

Ning Neal won the ladies division with 32 points with Yuza Reginiussen second on 29.

Near Pins went to Ning Neal (3), Chris Voller, Paul Chabot, Marty Rock, Colin James, Jim Lane (2), Pete Sumner, Noi Emmerson, Mikael Andersson and Erik Reginiussen.

Near pins in three and two shots on the 8th, 11th and 12th went to Ning Neal, Bill Bertram, Mike Lewis, Brian Blackford (2), Noi Emmerson, Chris Voller, Andy Baber (2), Toi Blair, Sassa and Joe Kubon.

Long drives awards were won by Darryl Blair, Colin James, Bryan Priestley, Alan Pilkington, Cully Monks and Joe Kubon, and the straightest drives by Toi Blair, Ya Riley, Bryan Rought and Jim Lane.

In the ‘2’s, Marty Rock birdied the 6th in division 1 and Paul Chabot and Mark H shared the pot in division 2.

Friday, November 25, Eastern Star – The Club Championship (round 2)

Slightly lower scores than on Wednesday with the exception of Ning Neal who won the ladies division with 39 points with Miss Rut second, two points behind.

Jan Sordal alias Sassa topped division 1 with 37 points, Mike Missler was second two points behind and Marty Rock took third with 33.

Erik Reginiussen reigned in division 2 beating Bryan Rought 18/15 on the back nine after they both scored 35 points.  Andy Baber was third with 30.

Jim Lane took the honours in the third division with 34 points, Brian Blackford was second one point behind and Paul Chabot claimed third with 32.

So the overall winner and club champion 2011 with 71 points was Neville Scurrell.  Congratulations Neville!  Marty Rock was second after beating Paul Chabot on a 33/32 count back after they both came in with 70 points over the two days.

Near pin prizes went to Ning Neal (2), Andy Baber, Ian Plummer, Toi Blair, Mike Lewis, Chris Voller, Jim Lane (2), and Alan Pilkington.

Near pins in three and two shots on the 8th, 11th and 12th were claimed by Toi Blair, Keith Wooley, Harold G, Paul Chabot, Noi Emmerson, Pete Sumner, Bryan Rought, Brian Blackford (2), Ning Neal, Alan Pilkington, and Andy Baber.

Longest drives were won by Miss Rut, Chris Voller, Mike Lewis and Jim Lane and straightest drives by Josie Monks, Alan Pilkington, Harry Riley and Paul Chabot.
