Today we arrived to a full sign-up sheet of 28 golfers for our Monthly Medal.  That is a great turn out for low season, so thanks to all of you for your support of TGC both on and off the course.

It was a cool and overcast day as we headed up the ol’ 36 with our new Kenwood music and video system upgrade installed in the van.  This is great for our longer trips as we put up movies to pass the time on the road and keep a bit of sanity on the tour.

Weather was overcast and cool, but later on we had a bit of rain and the latter groups finished slightly damp.

We welcome back Kris K and partner Jensin Lim back to the fold to help keep the boys in line, and Rich Moore back in from Bangkok for a quick break from his teaching activities.  Jeez, even Brian Wilkinson made it back to town!  You just never know who is going to show up these days.

There were lots of familiar names and faces on the Monthly Medal podium today.  Darksider Geoff Doody was right up there with the aforementioned Kris K. who for once trailed Wilko and Rich Moore.  Steady and sure Mark Wood has family in town which usually means distractions, but he held it together for 2nd place honours.  The day went to newcomer John Rayer, who is now the proud owner of his first-star Monthly Medal Antigua shirt for July 2014!

Wednesday, July 30, Burapha A & B (white tees) – Stableford

T1st Masao Ishikawa (16) 37pts

T1st Thierry Danzas (22) 37pts

3rd Pek Svensson (16) 36pts

It has been far, far too long since we played this fine golf course, but it was worth the wait.  This is one of the best golf courses in the area, and we have a choice of 23 great courses to choose from here.  Burapha is home to many Asian Tour events so is always in top condition and with a cooling bank of clouds over our heads a perfect day for golf was in store.

4 tee times were required for today’s competition and our buddies from France and Japan stole the show.  Masao Ishikawa – we just call him Ishi – had a great day of golf to come home with 37 points to tie with Thierry Danzas for first place honours.  Thierry came in second at Laem Chabang a few weeks back so good to see him improve and work his way up those podium steps.  By the way, thanks go to Thierry for his donation to our “Smiling Caddy” charity which you will be hearing more about soon.  Well played guys!

Friday, August 1, Laem Chabang A & B (white tees) – Stableford

1st Jensin Lim (32) 39pts

2nd Henry O’Brien (18) 39pts

3rd David Ferris (25) 37pts

The first day of golf in August brought us back to Laem Chabang, by popular demand.  We booked 6 tee times here and filled the card easily, that is how popular this Nicklaus course is.  We are getting here (and Burapha) in under 30 minutes from TGC, which rivals Siam in drive time.  Today we played the A and B courses which tend to be easier than the C side, at least for the mid-handicappers anyway.

Our buddy from the high desert of Arizona, Dave Ferris, has been hitting the driving range lately and taking lessons up at the TPR Golf Academy with great results.  He shot one better than his handicap on today’s card so Tyrone is doing some good work up there if he can even get Dave on track!

Local rascal and ladies man Henry O’Brien was once again hard to beat, even off his new 18 handicap (finally out of the 20’s) and shared the winnings with his 39 points.

Sorry Henry, the star of the show today was the little lady of the links, Jensin Lim from Singapore who had her best round in memory to tie on 39 Stableford points, a great number to shoot at Laem Chabang.  You go girl!

Thanks again to all who joined in with us for the fun of golf in Pattaya, the home of golf in Thailand!
