PSC golf from the Outback Golf Bar

Monday, April 28, Burapha – Stableford

23 Outbackers played A and B from the longer blue tees and surprisingly Div B had the better scores.  The course was in great condition though the speed of the greens did seem to vary.

In Div B, Kim Danboise edged out the returning Steve Kilner on c/b, both recording the day’s top score of 39pts.  Coming in third was Steve’s partner Owie Boribun, who scored a very creditable 38.

Kerry Beck had 37 pts to win the higher division from Norm Cheetham’s mate, two-handicapper Walter Panichi (36) and Bob Finley on 35.  Finally, Geoff Stimpson returns to the UK for a few weeks, so have a good trip and we will see you in about five weeks.

There were three ‘2’s from Pete Stonebridge (A6) and Geoff Stimpson & Kim Danboise (B3).

Div A (0-16)

Tuesday, April 29, Laem Chabang – Stableford

A small field of just 10 golfers played the Valley and Mountain nines (C & A) at the magnificent Jack Nicklaus designed Laem Chabang course, which was, as usual, in great condition.  The B loop (Lake) remains closed for maintenance until mid-May.  Although there was a lot of thunder all around us we were lucky and missed all the storms.

Welcome to Melbourne visitor Geoff Pratt, who had a great 41pts to win the day from Perth visitor, Matt Badman (38) and regular player and member, Sakorn with 35.  Geoff also had the only ‘2’ but his friend and playing partner, Michael Prideaux, didn’t have such a good day, preferring not to return his card.

It is one of the best courses in the area and with reduced green fees during all of May to celebrate its 20 year anniversary hopefully it will be better supported.  The Outback will be here every Wednesday, except for the 21st, when we shall be at The Thai Country Club.

1st Geoff Pratt (13) 41pts

2nd Matt Badman (11) 38pts

3rd Sakorn Pramoolchart (14) 35pts

Wednesday, April 30, Khao Kheow – Stableford

This was our last fortnightly visit to this great course for a month.  We played the preferred two nines (A & B) from the yellow tees with the course in great shape apart from a few patches on some of the greens, but they didn’t have any detrimental effect on the play except a little problem on the A9 green where the local dogs have been scratching at it.

The course continues to be the winner as only Norm Cheetham could match his handicap with an excellent 36pts, beating Any Makara on 34.  Course specialist Suzi edged out Norm’s mate Wally on c/b, both with 33, and needless to say this delighted Norm who took all the money.

Also a big welcome back at last to John O’Keefe, who has been off for some time recovering from knee surgery and was just trying things out and taking it a little easy, but it won’t take long for him to get back into the swing of things, so to speak.

There was nobody good enough to get a ‘2’.

1st Norm Cheetham (13) 36pts

2nd Andy Makara (26) 34pts

3rd Suzi Lawton (25) 33pts
