Monday, Oct. 13, Green Valley (white tees) – Stableford

1st Pierre Bietry (16) 36pts

2nd Andy Makara (28) 35pts

T3rd Thierry Danzas (21) 34pts

T3rd Yui Bietry (8) 34pts

T3rd Wayne Cottrell (12) 34pts

The signup sheet was full once again as our regular Monday venue of Green Valley proves to be so popular.  We all love this course but the only thing I still can’t get my head around is the hole numbering.  I think this current system is probably working out to be the best and the flow seems to be working just fine now.

The course was in great shape as usual.  There have been many improvements to the cart paths over the summer months and when that is all finished, RGV will be perfect.

Scoring was certainly on the sensible side and we had a trio at 34 with Yui, Thierry and Wayne (your August Medal winner) all hitting that number.  Regular Andy Makara did well on the day and his 35 was good enough to snatch a sole second.  Winner, winner poulet dinner went to our long time friend M. Pierre Bietry, the only golfer to shoot to his handicap!  He’s a lucky man to have Yui as both a golf partner and a life partner.  Bien joué mon ami!

Wednesday, Oct. 15, Laem Chabang A & C (white tees) – Stableford

1st Phil Smedley (11) 33pts

2nd Walter Baechli (17) 32pts

3rd Ray Powell (15) 32pts

This was a well-anticipated venue as we booked this last day of the summer special over 2 months ago.  The weather was near perfect and with the A and C courses on the agenda it was a golf day to look forward to.

The course was in great condition and the clubhouse is coming along nicely with a date of Dec. 31 for completion.  We still had the private hotel rooms to change and shower in, which was a nice change from the jammed up conditions elsewhere.

The first nine seemed to go all so well for just about everyone.  The A course was forgiving and calm.  And then there was the C course, a much tougher challenge with the heat of the midday sun to cope with also.  It was here that many fell to only a few Stableford points on the back and the reason the final scores were probably not our best.

Ray Powell is back!  Escaping the depths of an English winter, Ray is back with us for the season.  This last week has seen many of our regulars returning to the fold so you will be seeing more familiar faces here soon.  Ray had the same score as our colourful buddy Walter Baechli and with 32 points each they shared second place.

Making just one more putt than the other boys, our own Golf Captain Phil Smedley rose to the top with a big red 33 circled at the top of his card.  It had been a few weeks since Phil had won and good to see him back in form.
