PSC golf from the Outback Golf Bar

Monday, July 21, Burapha – Stableford

Ten teams played a 2-person better-ball stableford event on the C and D loops at Burapha today, being the second of our monthly series of events to encourage caddies to partake; both John O’Keefe and Bob Lindborg partnered their respective caddies, Dang and Fon.  They didn’t make the podium but they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves both partnerships finishing with a tally of 37pts.

The team of Dennis Pelly and Alex Graham, which was only put together at the last moment, came out winners with 44pts, from Burapha regulars Jimmy Little and Bob Finley on 43.  Recently arrived from New Zealand, Dion Lane teamed with up with good friend and fellow countryman John Low to come third with 42pts, which included four birdies from Dion!  In fourth were Sven Lund and Ken Young with 41pts who had never played together before, so well done you two.

Tuesday, July 22, Khao Kheow – Stableford

We had a turn-out of 7 players today as one of the Kiwi boys didn’t hear his alarm going off so he missed his minibus.

The car park was empty when we arrived and the course seemed very quiet but, and there is always a ‘but’, we ended up following two five-balls and a four-ball so the time to go round was about 4½ hours, a little bit too long in my book but never mind, as what else have you got planned on a golf day.

We played the B and C loops with ‘lift, clean and place’ on the fairways due to heavy rain the previous day, however, the course was generally ok but the greens were very slow and it looked like some of had some kind of disease.

There were no ‘2’s.

1st Suzi Lawton (24) 37pts

2nd Geoff Christie (05) 36pts

Wednesday, July 23, Laem Chabang – Stableford

Four groups played the C and B nines of the renowned Jack Nicklaus local course, Laem Chabang, which just happens to be extremely well priced at the moment whilst renovations to the club house and locker rooms are carried out.  This magnificent course is offering golf for 2050 baht all up every weekday until October and the Outback has bookings here nearly every Wednesday.

There were no ‘2’s, so we had two divisions – Tony Garnett had a fantastic 40pts to win Div B from Greg Hill (32) and Tim Knight came third on c/b with 29pts, whilst the top Div was won by Geoff Christie with 35pts on c/b over Peter Nixon, with John Low a close third on 34.

Div A (0–14)

1st Geoff Christie (05) 35pts

2nd Peter Nixon (11) 35pts

3rd John Low (13) 34pts

Div B (15+)

1st Tony Garnett (15) 40pts

2nd Greg Hill (17) 32pts

Friday, July 25, Green Valley – Stableford

We travelled to our regular Green Valley Friday venue today with a good turnout of 23 golfers, or was it 22 and a half as one was nearly asleep and certainly not fit for golf after a heavy night out?

We teed off 10 minutes early on a bright sunny day; the greens hadn’t totally recovered from their recent dressing and some of them were a little bit untrue, particularly on the front nine.

As we were waiting to tee off, the starter noticed that a couple of players were not wearing collared shirts and kindly pointed out that all players should be correctly attired and next time they either change or don’t play.  Come on guys you wouldn’t forget your etiquette at home so please do not here.

The day’s top score of 40pts came in Div B, recorded by Waldo from Gerry Roche on 37 and Andy Makara edging out Bob Mattes on c/b for third place, both on 35.  The scoring in Div A wasn’t quite so good with Svenn’s 36pts being enough to win from Dennis Pelly and John Low, each having 33.

On a final note we have a health warning for you, much to the amusement of many back at the bar, when they heard the story the following day.  Please do not take the bar’s Tuk-a-taas home with you, which are currently plastic bracelets often worn by girls, that represent a drink paid for on the day, as this could get you into serious trouble from a loved one, as one of our customers discovered later that night.

There were only two ‘2’s, from Greg Hill (8th) and Svenn Lund (12th).

Please also note that the August Medal has been postponed until Friday 8th.
