PSC golf from Tropical Bert’s

Tuesday, Oct. 18, Greenwood – Stableford

It always seems these days to be a battle against the elements, where the rain falls and how much.  It looked quite good as we all met at Bert’s and despite rain the night before we were in hope that was dry at Greenwood, so off we went.

So far this year, despite it having poured down at times, we have been lucky and not lost a day so we set out in hope.  Arriving there we noted it looked quite dull and booking in it was the normal chant, carts on the paths only, so off to the first tee where we were told we would be playing C & A in that order.

Teeing off and walking down the first fairway the thing we most noticed was that it was soaking wet, as was the rough.  Talking to the caddie I was not surprised to learn it had rained heavily the previous night.  It was also noticeable that the ball did not go anywhere.  On reaching a drive you could normally find the ball just past the mark where it had landed.  It was going to be a long day!  The wind was also quite strong so the initial thoughts were that the score would not be high.

We moved on however and were soon onto the second nine and learning that the day had suddenly got very hot and muggy.  The hot sun had caused the humidity to rise.  However we battled on and in time it cooled down and we were able to finish and get into a nice hot shower.  Surprisingly it did not rain, so all in all a great day out.

Then it was into cars and back to Pattaya where we were told it had been raining on and off all day.  So to the results and it was nice to have played with the winner who after some illness of late put a great round in.  The winner with 41 points was Mick O’Meara ahead of a count back for second on 37 points that saw Dick Warberg in second ahead of yours truly in third and Mike Gaussa just missing out.

As it was still a bit rainy outside we decided to have a cold one, or two or three, until we were all quite happy. T.T.F.N.

Near Pins:  John Hackett, Mashi Kaneta, Mick O’Meara, Mike Gaussa.
