PSC Golf from The Growling Swan

Monday, Jan. 12, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford

Twenty seven combatants set out today with the weather looking as if it was going to be on our side.  After a short bus trip we arrived to find the old club house still in use, with no date given as to when the new one will be in operation.  I have to say we were greeted by the friendliest staff I have ever encountered and nothing was a problem, which was very refreshing.

We hit the tee boasting two grades and found the course still a little underdone, with tricky greens, pin placements a bit tough and dry fairways.  Overall, if they get things right (and I am sure they are heading in the right direction), booking and getting on this course will be harder than picking Saturday night’s Tattslotto numbers.

There were some good scores, the weather was definitely staying on our side and a comfortable day was had by all.  Competition was tough in the A grade and the winner off his handicap of five with 40 points on a count back was Barry Welling ahead of Keith Buchanan in second.  Third with 36 points was Alan Hanlon on a count back over fourth placed Fred Cuypers.

B flight was won by Mark Henkel with a great score of 43 points.  Second with another great score, 42 points, was Sandy Leiper while third place went to Tom Cotton with 38.  The final podium spot went to our only lady player Rita Zobelli with 35 points.

Thursday, Jan. 15, The Emerald – Stableford

Some stray cats were still heading home as 26 Growling Swan golfers were heading to Emerald last Thursday.  The weather was perfect with a gentle zephyr keeping tempers cool as the course certainly bared its claws.  Only ‘Mr. Consistent’ Gary Monley bettered his handicap and the general consensus was that the shoddy condition of the course presented was not good value for the price.

Mine host Peter Grey, always has an eventful day at golf and today he turned fifty shades greyer when he was soggy-arsed by a Hunter Gear sprinkler and then had to endure an agonizing wait to see if his maiden par 3 near-pin held up. ….. Onya Pete!

Sal ‘The Muz” Brizzi one-putted his way to a count-back win in A Grade, beating JJ Harney whose fitness waned over the last few holes.

‘Mr Consistent’ finished six points clear of Seesa in B Grade, whilst the Coveted Compass Cap was gleaned by Alan Taylor who accepted the award ever so graciously.
