Cooler temperatures today, Tuesday, June 18, ensured all players were a little more comfortable and this showed in the scoring.  Normally the heat and the tricky greens keep the scores down a little.

Our greens at Phoenix are similar to those of the recent US Open course at Merrion except those at Merrion were 3 points faster on the stimpmeter than at Phoenix.  Try to imagine that?  So our first congratulations go to Justin Rose for his triumph at Merrion.

Our second congratulations go to David Lusha for his superb score of 39 points today, winning by a comfortable 3 shots from ‘Mr. Consistency’, Mukesh Thakkar with 36 points who in turn beat Wolfram Krueger (36 points) into third place on count back.  The refreshed Bob Neylon, after a few weeks rest from the game, recorded 35 points to claim fourth place.

Not only did David win the first prize, but also the KPK Food Services voucher.  Thanks go to Keith Kephane of KPK Food Services for his donation.

Our third congratulations go to Wolfram Krueger who shot a hole in one at the Ocean 7th hole.  We all enjoyed that, especially at the Relax Bar after where Wolfram duly bought everyone a drink.

Near pin prizes were won by Wolfram Krueger, Joe Miller, Bob Neylon & David Lusha.  For the rest of us hackers there is always the lucky draw as a consolation.  The free massage went to Sergio Volpi, the free drink to Mike Gerrard (both of these prizes are donated by the Relax Bar management), and 50 baht went to, yes you guessed, Joris Goetschalckx.  With 50 baht left in the kitty another lucky draw was won by Bill Hewitt.

We have changed our format now so that all competitions every Tuesday and Friday will be under stableford scoring rules.  No more stroke play.  This is to enable all players to try and improve their ongoing scores each game for qualification in the newly formed monthly and annual competitions sponsored by the Blue Olive Restaurant.

We have also now acquired our new society shirts and they are available on both Tuesday’s and Friday’s each week on request, price 300 baht each.
