PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, May 11, Burapha C & D – Stableford

After the previous week’s great field for Jack’s birthday, we returned to what seems to be the norm just at the moment, with relatively small fields everywhere and plenty of tee times available on all the courses.

A and B were closed today so our four groups played C and D and the scores showed how tough these two loops are as Shaun Bray came out the winner with just 34 points from Peter Nixon’s 33.  Jimmy Little and Pete Stonebridge both had 32’s and John Cunningham took fifth place a further point back.

John Cunningham C5, Ed Turner C8 and Bob Finley D2 all had ‘2’s.

Tuesday, May 12, Laem Chabang – Stableford

Laem Chabang is being set up for the 2015 Pattaya Singha Open, and with the course in really good condition, the two groups decided to try their hand from the blue tees.  This is made possible by our use of the EGA handicap system which means a player has the option to choose which tee he would like to play from on the day, with one’s handicap being adjusted accordingly.

Well, some players regretted their choice early on in the round with plenty of the blue tees having been moved back to the black tees to coincide with the upcoming Pro competition!  Andy Butts played the difficult C course brilliantly with 39 gross and 21 points but fell apart on the much easier B course to end up finishing third on count back.

Beating Andy (31pts) to second place was Shaun Bray on his first outing off the blue tees.  Andre Coetzee used his length off the back tees to his advantage (for a change) and miraculously finished the round with the same ball he started with, playing to a steady 35 points off his 7 handicap to win the day.

Robert Barnes had the only ‘2’ on B5.

1st Andre Coetzee (07) 35pts

2nd Shaun Bray (21) 31pts

Wednesday, May 13, Bangpra – Stableford

Just two groups here at the great value Bangpra today.  The course was in good condition and the greens, whilst slow, have recovered well from being recently renovated.

There were no ‘2’s so we had three places and Matt Herman was the winner on c/b with 35pts over Tim Knight while Kim Danboise picked up third with 33.

Outback opinion: Weather – very hot; Check in – fast; Tee time – on time; Fairways – fast; Rough – medium; Greens – slow for Bangpra; Bunkers – needed raking; Value for money – excellent; Pace of play – 4hrs; Drink stations open – all open; Restaurant – good value.

1st Mathias Hermann (14) 35pts

2nd Tim Knight (28) 35pts

3rd Kim Danboise (13) 33pts

Friday, May 15, The Emerald – 4BBB

Green Valley had another tournament today, so once again we moved across to the Emerald course instead of Silky Oaks or St Andrews.  It was Bob Lindborg’s Birthday Bash, which as usual was a confusingly named 4BBB event which is more clearly known as two-person pairs.

11 teams took part on an improving Emerald course, which has an exceptionally good deal on offer for green fee, cart and caddie.

The day was comfortably won by Bruce McAdam and Tim Knight on 47pts, three ahead of the Kim Danboise and JP Maffray pairing with 44.  Bob Lindborg, who teamed up with Neil Hughes was in third place with 43pts, beating Graham Mitchell and Les Easton on count back.

Back at the Outback, Bob had sponsored good food for all the players as well as the near pins, which were won by Tom Byrne, Tony Oaks (two) and Mick Beresford.

In addition to the normal proceedings for the day, Bob generously sponsored the top three individual scores, which were all 35’s, attained by Tom Byrne, Bruce McAdam and Neil Hughes.

There were three ‘2’s from Mike Missler & Bob Barnes (7th) and Kim Danboise (15th).
