IPGC golf from The Tara Court

Sunday, Feb. 3, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

On Sunday we were back at Mountain Shadow.  We had our largest group to date so we decided to have three divisions, Blue, White and Ladies.  It was a beautiful day for golf, hazy and not too hot so even the new people who had just arrived from Ireland at the weekend found it very comfortable.

Because this course is difficult the scoring was not great and only one person played better than his handicap and that was off the Blue tees.  Terry Kelly was the man who had a very creditable 37pts followed by Peter Murphy with 34.  In third place was Don Byrne winning on a count back with 33 from Sean Connolly.  Don had just arrived from Ireland on Saturday with his wife Pauline who won the Ladies with 35pts. No jet lag there!

Theresa Byrne was second in the Ladies with 29pts.  Theresa had also just arrived at the weekend and was on her first game this year.

The White division was won by Joe Peters with 30pts and in second was Andy Galvin with 28.

Back at O’Gara’s Bar and Restaurant we said goodbye to Ritchie Martin and Brian Lalor who were both going back to sunny Ireland.

Tuesday, Feb. 5, Crystal Bay – Stableford

Crystal Bay was the challenge today where we played the C and A courses.  It was our first time to play the C course for a long time and it was a nice change.  For some of our group it was their first time to play it but it didn’t stop them from coming in with very good scores off the white tees.

It was a beautiful day for golf, cloudy and not too hot which suits a lot of our players as they are not used to hot weather where they have just came from!  At one stage it looked very much like rain with very dark clouds but thankfully it blew away and nobody got wet.

Teddy Lodge was on top of the podium with an excellent 40pts followed by Sean Connolly with 39.  Back in form again in third place was Frank McGowan with 37 and in fourth place, in what will be his last time with us for a while was Darren Murphy with 35.  Peter Murphy came in fifth with 34pts and also got the only 2 of the day.

Back in O’Gara’s Bar and Restaurant we said goodbye to both Darren Murphy and Alan O’Connell, both of whom are returning to Ireland.  After the presentation the Murphy twins, Darren and Keith, with the help of some others entertained everyone with a good sing song until the early hours of the morning.

1st Teddy Lodge (10) 40pts

2nd Sean Connolly (10) 39pts

3rd Frank McGowan (17) 37pts

4th Darren Murphy (23) 35pts

5th Peter Murphy (13) 34pts

‘2’s:  Peter Murphy

Thursday, Feb. 7, Eastern Star – Stableford

A slightly smaller group today went to Eastern Star as some of our friends were playing in Laem Chabang instead.  The course was in reasonable condition but some of the greens are badly in need of repair with some very bad patches on a lot of them.  Otherwise it was ok and the temperature was nice and not too hot.

Pat Culloty had a comfortable win with 38pts followed by Terry Kelly on 35.  John McNamara had his first podium spot with us, coming in third with 34pts and Theresa Connolly beat Joe Peters on a count back to claim fourth.

There were no ‘2’s so a carry over to Sunday at Mountain Shadow.

1st Pat Culloty (20) 38pts

2nd Terry Kelly (15) 35pts

3rd John McNamara (24) 34pts

4th Theresa Connolly (24) 30pts
