It looks like we were both outnumbered and outgunned for this month’s comp against Monica’s finest. Henry O’Brien was our saviour and kept us from the shame of a total whitewash on the podium for the 2 flights as he pulled off a 2nd place finish with 34 points. We must congratulate Colin Davis (so as to appear to be gracious in defeat) for his 40 points on the day, well played mate! We all headed back to The Golf Club for our BBQ and presentation, albeit it a tearful one.

Firstly, thanks to all who participated in this inaugural charity event, the 4th of July 4-Man Scramble and the support from our fellow golf societies of Steve Mascari, Shane Ruddle, and Russell Exley. Bob Newell was the hero of the day as he raced back from down south to run the event and made it all run smoothly for the gathered masses.

This is a story of a history making round of golf, the likes of which we defy all to beat. Just 54 strokes were needed to go round Emerald today for four golfers who had the game of their lives. 25 were taken on the front nine alone. Throw in a hole-in-one and that should tell you how amazing of a round the 4 lads now called “The 49ers” had this 4th of July. Two Yanks and two Brits celebrated their mutual Independence Day by making golf history in Pattaya, and by raising over 30,000 baht for our charity “Hand 2 Hand”.
The team of Joe Mooneyham, Bob Newell, Gavin Perfect and Ernie Hill had the ideal partnership of combined talents; long drives, sharp short game and accuracy on the greens for their victory here today. P.S.C. Golf Chairman Mooneyham had his 4th hole-in-one on this 4th of July by taking just one swing off the tee on the 15th at Emerald and used the contours of the green to roll the ball into that little 4.25 inch circle. Ernie Hill was pounding the ball over 300 yards for his maximum drives and Gav and Bob were chipping and putting demons as they looked at the scorecard after nine holes with only 25 shots taken.
The back nine started all wrong. On the 10th, Ernie drove over the green but his ball was selected as an up-and-down looked rather straightforward. The chip stopped at just over 2 feet from the hole but all four putts for birdie lipped out and a par was taken on the shortest par 4 on the course. Composure was gathered and the rest of the round got back on track with a 29 for the back nine score.
Eight lads were already waiting back at the clubhouse, looking good and feeling quite content with themselves, but wouldn’t you if you brought home a 55.3 or a 55.6? Those scores would normally be good enough for the trophy on any normal day, but this was no normal day for “The 49ers”. History had been made and our congratulations go out to them for this amazing victory.
Back at The Golf Club, balloons were being strung up, the fire was started, the food was getting laid out for the presentation and party for the first annual 4th of July 4-Man Scramble. Johnny Clements was singing the classics for us and the wine was flowing for the great party afterwards.
TGC gals Nat, Duen, Koy and Ying welcome all at the 4th of July bash.
Lastly, don’t sign up for a 4-Man scramble if you do not intend to show up. Remember, three other guys are waiting and depending on you to get yer arse out of bed and be part of a good team effort. Nuff said.
Reminder: We have our monthly Road Trip to Kabinburi on the 17th & 18th July so email us or drop by to sign up soon!
