Tuesday, June 23, Silky Oaks – Stroke/Medal

Once again we teamed up with Joe McArdle with his Tara Court players and fielded a total of 22 players.

Silky Oaks course has changed dramatically, now becoming a true 18-hole course with no more shared fairways and now has five Par-3 holes.  The course was in good shape considering the major changes, however the Stroke Index of each hole has yet to be established so it was decided we would play a stroke/medal competition.  It turned out to be a very eventful day and all players reported that they enjoyed the challenge of the new layout at Silky Oaks.

We had 5 players winning the Birdie ‘2’s competition: Jimmy Johnson, Marie McGuigan, Ted Morris, Joe McLaughlin and Brendan Roddy.

Because there was no Stroke Index for the course we could not implement a ‘count-back’ procedure and therefore this produced many winners.

Taking the first place honor with a net 66 was Declan Kelly (Tara Court) followed by Craig Hitchens (PFGS) in second place with a net 70.  In joint third place were Ted Morris (Tara Court & PFGS) and John Dearden (Tara Court & PFGS) who both shot a net 71.  Joint fifth place honors with a net 72s went to Donal McGuigan (PFGS) and Joe McLaughlin (PFGS) and in a tie for seventh place were Joe McArdle (Tara Court & PFGS) and Russell Gilroy (Tara Court & PFGS) with net 73s.

Thursday, June 25, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

We only had 7 players out today, however it was a good day with the rain holding off and as always Mountain Shadow, with its tree lined fairways, proved yet again to be a difficult and challenging course, especially as the decision was to play from the blue tees (apart from our Silver members).

Our birdie ‘2’s competition produced only one winner and that honor went to Paul Pavloff.

Our friend who hails from Mauritius, Jean Fok Chak, took the honor of winning with an outstanding 40 points, with Paul St. Pierre taking second place with 38 and in third was ‘Mr. Consistency’ himself, Jimmy Johnson with 37.
