Good scores hard to come by

Travellers Rest Golf Group

Don’t ask me why because I don’t know, but all this week’s winning scores were remarkably ordinary.  The weather was fine, the courses were all in great condition as usual, and yet no one came close to bettering their handicap.  The only good thing was that nobody dominated the leaderboards this week and all the prizes were shared around which pleased most people.

Monday, July 21, Treasure Hill – Stableford

On Monday the TRGG group headed off to Treasure Hill, which most people find to be a very tough golf course and on this day it was no exception.  The whole field struggled to get the better of it (the course) and in the end all failed miserably.

Jim Cooper made the best of a bad job and finished in the lead on 31 points, with Daryl Ottaway and Derek Thorogood in close attendance behind.

1st Jim Cooper (14) 31 pts

2nd Daryl Ottaway (5) 30 pts

3rd Derek Thorogood (15) 29 pts

Wednesday, July 23, Greenwood – Stableford

It was off Greenwood (C and A courses) on Wednesday and most players like this place as it is a forgiving course with mostly true greens to putt on.  This was not the case on Wednesday however.

The scoring drought continued and it required two 29 handicappers to show the better golfers how to amass enough points to win a competition.  Laurie Bevan used all his shots to good effect and came home in the lead on 33 points and was followed in by big Seamus Farrell in second place while Aussie chef Bob Cannon cooked up a round good enough for third place.

1st Laurie Bevan (29) 33pts

2nd Seamus Farrell (29) 31pts

3rd Robert Cannon (19) 30pts

Friday, July 25, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

The TRGG made a welcome return to Mountain Shadow on Friday and I am happy to report that I, your golf correspondent, was more pleased than most as I won.  In what turned out to be the closest finish of the week I just about got my large proboscis in front at the end and pipped Derek Thorogood on count back.  Charlie Cox was only one shot behind in third place.

1st Andy Rich (20) 34pts

2nd Derek Thorogood (15) 34pts

3rd Charlie Cox (17) 33pts

Good luck to all you golfers for the coming week and if you would like to play a round of golf with the TRGG, please phone Fergus Brennan on 086 056 7019 or pop into the Ned Kelly Bar in Soi Lengkee and add your name to the weekly lists which are posted on the notice board.
