PSC golf from The Outback Golf Bar

Monday, July 28, Burapha – Stableford

16 Outbackers played the C and D loops from the white tees on an overcast day which took a turn for the worse as the last three groups had to finish in torrential rain.  However, the course was in top condition which produced some great scoring, particularly from Kim Danboise and Dennis Pelly who both finished with 41 points each.

Heaven knows what Dennis would have scored if the rains hadn’t arrived for his last four holes as he only managed to pick up one point on each of them.  Anchor throw? Comes to mind; Nay perish the thought – it really did rain hard and Dennis could barely see through his glasses.  But the disappointing finish cost him the win as he lost on c/b to the in-form Kim Danboise.

Friday winners (from left): Keith Dyson, Geoff Christie & John Stafford.Friday winners (from left): Keith Dyson, Geoff Christie & John Stafford.

Ivan Plunkett was third with 39 and Keith Dyson secured his first podium place here at the Outback, taking fourth with 38, whilst wily ‘not so much of the old’ Bobby Driggs was fifth with 36 points.

Geoff Christie had two ‘2’s (8th & 11th), Jim Brackett & Ivan Plunkett both on the 5th and Kerry Rothman another on the 11th.

Tuesday, July 29, Bangpra – Stableford

Our visits to Bangpra have moved to Tuesdays for the next couple of months or so, to make way for Laem Chabang on Wednesdays, which is currently offering golf at a fantastic price.

11 here today, which isn’t too bad for a Tuesday, on a course that was practically empty apart from some groups of caddies playing and one 5-ball; yes you’ve guessed – the one in front of us.  It wasn’t really the starter’s fault as they started as two different groups and teamed up when they were out of sight on the third.  So it was a painful two and a half hour front nine but they did get the gee-up from the marshall on the back-nine, scooting round in two.

Bobby Driggs had the best round of the day with 36 points, beating the consistent Kiwi 5 handicapper, Geoff Christie by one as John Low got the better of General Jack on c/b, both with 31.

There were no ‘2’s.

1st Bobby Driggs (14) 36pts

2nd Geoff Christie (05) 34pts

3rd John Low (13) 31pts

4th Jack Moseley (21) 31pts

Wednesday, July 30, Laem Chabang – Stableford

A fine day with light cloud made conditions very pleasant for the four groups who played Mountain and Lake at Laem Chabang today.  It was good to have a rest from the tough C course, where we have been starting for some time now but I thought the greens on A (Mountain) needed a bit longer to be in top condition.

The rating for this course from the whites is a low 68.6 and the high scores reflected this, as only one person in the field of 15 shot less than 31 points, quite a remarkable statistic!

Steve Durey, who loves this course, had a great 43 points to win from Laem Chabang member Tony Garnett with 39, and John Low (38) beat Mike Missler on c/b in the battle for third and fourth.

Sakorn had a ‘2’ on A7 as did John Low (B8) who after a great tee shot had a tap-in for his birdie.

1st Steve Durey (21) 43pts

2nd Tony Garnett (14) 39pts

3rd John Low (13) 38pts

4th Mike Missler (08) 38pts

Friday, August 1, Green Valley – Stableford

31 players enjoyed their golf at Green Valley today and once again complements must go to the ground staff for keeping the course in such good nick, especially during the extraordinary dry weather during what is supposed to be the wet season.  With sticky, but relatively cool conditions, the scoring was very high with four players scoring 40 points or more.

Kiwi visitor, Geoff Christie finished the week on a high, winning Div A with 39 points off his 5 handicap, followed home by Mike Missler (36) and Peter LeNoury (35).

John Stafford is obviously fighting fit again after some recent surgery and has absolutely no chance of a handicap review, only downwards, as he amassed a brilliant 43 points to win Div B by three from the in-form Dennis Pelly who scored 40 points today, to follow his 41 on Monday at Burapha.  Kerry Beck, who has just returned from a quick trip down to Aus, was third with 39.

The best round of the day was returned by the fast improving Keith Dyson with 44 points, from Tim Knight who at last has shown what he can do when he puts 18 holes together; in recent months, Tim has been scoring on only about 13 or 14 holes!  Well done the pair of you, both having four ‘4 pointers’ on their cards and Keith has received a handicap adjustment down to 28.

Welcome back to Bryce Stick and also to Waldo’s son, Matthew having his first hit with the Outback.

There were six ‘2’s from David Davies (5th), Jim Brackett (8th), another from Jim (12th) plus Bob Finley & Greg Hill on the 12th and Rick Evans on the 16th.
