Bangkok Casuals Football League Div 1 & 2

Pattaya based Brass Monkey F.C., lying second in the Division 2 league table, played the team one place below them, Hanuman Boys, last weekend and with both sides plying for promotion it promised to be a close game.

Right from the kick-off both teams showed that they meant business, with Brass having the first chance but the Hanuman keeper pulled off a smart save with his foot and the loose ball went wide.  Hanuman replied with a quick break of their own but the Brass defense denied a final shot.

Brass should have gone ahead when a superb through-ball from Fungkejorn found Matveev in the clear with only the keeper to beat, but he put his shot wide.  Hanuman were also looking dangerous with their breakaways but the final ball was lacking.

Brass went close again when Dipita’s shot hit the outside of the left upright but they were not to be denied a third time and they took the lead when Matveev capped a fine passing move to put Brass 1-0 up.

Hanuman came back strongly and after the Brass keeper pulled off two fine saves, they finally got back on level terms with a fine goal that started with a move in their own penalty area.  Brass had one more chance to restore their advantage before halftime but the Hanuman keeper brought off a wonder save to deny Brass’s Poehl.

The second half saw the game open out and both defenses had to work overtime to stop the other team from scoring, but it was Brass that went ahead once more when a free-kick found its way to Dipta who latched on to it to make it 2-1.

The tempo quickened and fierce tackles were made by both sides but it was still the Brass team who made the most chances.  Hanuman were getting desperate and they went close with two shots on goal but the Brass defense held firm and the Pattaya team were worthy winners at the final whistle.  The pace and standard of play in this match was top class.
