Just when you think that Chaten ‘the rajah’ Patel has gone quite on the course, Boom! There he is on top step of the podium. So it was as one of the most prolific Pattaya golfers continued his winning ways, this time at the not so easy Green Valley. Chaten was also the only player to match his handicap as Martin Wilde pushed him all the way, just one shot adrift.

Monday, June 15, Crystal Bay – Stableford

2nd Pierre Bietry (18) 40pts
3rd Barry Oats (? ) 36pts
4th Paul Smith (3) 35pts
Grant Cardel is recognized as a player that can shoot as well as he wants, and that potential was realized again this Monday with a man of the match thumping 43 points. Grant was three clear of Pierre ‘the magician’ Bietry while Barry Oats claimed the third podium spot with a steady36 points and Paul Smith rounded out the flight on 35.
Friday, June 19, Plutaluang – Stableford

2nd Tip Briney (26) 34pts
3rd Freddy Starbeck (14) 33pts
It’s always a pleasure to hold a competition at Plutaluang, and today’s play over the North and West courses proved to be no exception, even though the greens were rather slower than would be normally expected.
Rob Brown showed his class to put together a sparkling best of the day 38 points and was also the only player to better his handicap in the difficult conditions. Rod was four clear of Irishman Tip Briney, leaving Freddy Starbeck to close the flight a shot adrift.
Monday, June 22, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
1st Ian Pickles (15) 34pts
2nd Freddy Starbeck (13) 32pts
3rd Colin Davis (19) 31pts
Not sure if it was the change of seasons and the hot weather or suffering from problems associated with activities the night before, but the turnout was a bit sparse. For those that did make the effort they were rewarded with a very tough challenge at a pristine Mountain Shadow.
Ian Pickles stood atop of the podium with 34 points as no player managed to better par. Ian was two clear of Freddy ‘the quite one’ Starbeck and a further stroke clear of Colin ‘the Donkey’ Davis.
No 2’s were recorded so it’s a rollover on Wednesday.
Wednesday, June 24, Wangjuntr – Stableford
A Flight

Certain courses start the nerves tingling way before tee-off time and one of these is Wangjuntr. Always a favourite with the players, it provides a tough but fair test; you hit a bad shot and you are punished, hit a good one and unless you finish in a divot you get a good result. On this day the course was in pretty good condition.
B Flight provided the man of the match in Welshman Phil Davies with a splendid 37 points. Jorn Finnerup chased Phil all the way home with a sound even par round as ‘the Donkey’ made it two pay window visits in as many games.
The man on form, Mark Bamber, took the honours in A Flight as his back-nine outpointed both Rod Brown and Freddy ‘Startreck’, all with 34 points.
Ed Wyckoff was the sole heir to the rollover 2’s pot.
Friday, June 26, Green Valley – Stroke

Despite the gloomy start to the day with a Friday morning storm, it could not dampen the hopes and ambitions of a fine crowd that turned out to participate in Freddy Starbeck’s birthday bash, held at Green Valley with a shotgun start at around 1 o’clock. There was a great prize on every hole up for grabs and five podium spots to be filled.
Filling the top podium spot and receiving the man of the match honours was Aussie superstar Bob Watson with a sparkling net 67 (gross 71). Bob was two clear of two of the nicest players on the Pattaya golfing scene, Welshman Phil Davies and Barry ‘the boot’ Copestake, with Phil’s inner nine being more favourably distributed than Barry’s.
Moggens took the fourth podium spot with a net 70 while Maurice Roberts closed the flight in fifth place with a solid even par round.
All the podium place finishers collected there lead crystal etched beer mugs and bags of loot. The presentation and birthday party was held at the Ferdinand Bar, which went on late into the night while the refreshments flowed freely with every one waiting eagerly for next year’s birthday bash.
