Bob’s best & not bad for a (T)hakker

Two flights today, Tuesday 12th Feb., to tackle the Lake/Ocean course.  Most players prefer this combination simply because we finish adjacent to the car park and the walkers don’t have far to go to get their clubs to their car.  I am sure the caddies prefer this as well.  It is some walk from the other 18th holes to the car park. Don’t really matter much for us old codgers who rent a cart for the day.

In ‘A’ flight today Mukesh Thakker (get it, Thakker, hacker.  Oh please yourselves missus), scored a superb 40 points (gross 79) to claim first place.  In second place was Richard Baldwin, miles away with 34 points with myself claiming third place with a lowly 33 points.  Don’t say much for the other (proper golfers).

In ‘B’ Flight Bob Neylon wiped out everybody with a massive 42 points (Gross 86).  In his own words, “My best score ever!”  In second place with a score of 37 points (sometimes good enough to win) was Joris Goetschalckx, and claiming third place with 35 points was Gerry Hughes.

Near pins went to John Bartley, Joe Miller, Eamon Murtagh & Peter Wathall.  With both Joris and John Bartley in the prizes everyone else was delighted because that meant they could not be in the lucky draw.  They always win!

So the lucky draw prizes donated by our hosts The Relax Bar were awarded to Adriano Reale, Sergio Poggi, Sergio Volpi and to spoil the Italian white wash, Jim Neilson.

We brought in the animal conservation group this week which meant that Richard Baldwin (who managed to slay a bird and a fish last week) could not go around destroying the wildlife!

Onto Friday, Feb. 15, and being one of my opponents in our match play group today Ulf Berggren not only pillaged the whole field, he took money from me as well.  However, I have to

say he played very well to score 39 points and claim the winner’s prize.

In second place was the yoyo man Patrick Browne with 38 points.  One week Patrick will score 20 points and the next he will shoot the lights out.  Third place was claimed by Ggggranville (The banana man) Swanton with 34 points.

Near pins went to Keith Etherington (2) Granville Swanton & Patrick Browne.

The supposed high season seems to be coming to an early end this year with the course not so busy as years gone by.  We are predominantly a Phoenix Members group but we welcome non Phoenix members as our guests and they can enjoy a reduced green fee as our guests.  Our main rules are men only and no more than 28 official handicap.

We also run fortnightly scheduled sea fishing trips.  So anyone interested, please call me on 087 091 7565.
