Thursday, Oct. 10, Burapha A & B (white tees) – Stableford

We played at Burapha today with a small turnout, but being sort of last minute and with all the rain we’ve recently it was still a good day out.

Burapha has to be one of the best courses around, lush fairways, quick greens and an interesting track.  It’s not too difficult if you’re playing ok but with the weather we have had of late it was playing very long today and the fairways were a little wet for the first 12 holes or so, but the greens still ran true.

If you’re off your putting game here you’re scared to hit it too hard, but then you run the risk of leaving it well short.  You’ve definitely got to commit to your putt.  Wonderful advice after the round, but it didn’t help me out on the course.

Today we welcomed Daniel from Scotland who proved to be a really good guy and a very handy golfer.  He plays off 6 handicap now but used to play off scratch before business got in the way.  My back was hurting just watching him hit the ball that hard.  I bet the ball was glad it was all over after 18 holes.

We also welcomed Donnie from Australia.  Thanks for the company Donnie and good to see you out there having a hit.

We played 12 holes today, then the thunder and lightning started and we quickly decided to have a break at the drink stop and wait it out.  Well the heavens opened up and the torrential rain came down for about 30 minutes and you couldn’t even see the greens anymore.  Congrats here to Burapha as 5 minutes after the rain stopped, the greens dried out and away we went.  Mind, the fairways after that were just a bog, but we only had a few holes to go so we plugged on.

Paul Blackshaw (h/cap10) finished first today with a net 76, just pipping Daniel Smith (H/cap 6) by one stroke.
