The Amari Orchid Pattaya Chris Kays Memorial Rugby Tournament took place at Horseshoe Point last weekend and featured 16 teams from six countries taking part.

The final saw the Thai Barbarians face off against the Southerners, with the former using some slick passing moves to race into a 10-0 lead by half time.

The Southerners fought back gamely in the second period and used their superior physical size to their advantage to narrow the gap to 10-7, however, the Barbarians were able to hold onto their lead to the final whistle and were deservingly crowed as champions and winners of the Cup.

In the other finals, the Shield was won by Thammasat University who were victors over Bangkok Japanese by a score of 24-0, Brutal Surin beat the Panthers 12 points to 5 to take the Bowl, and the Pau Ma Tei Barbarians triumphed 14-12 over Watsrichan Old Boys in the Plate final.

Note:  A full and comprehensive report of the 2-day rugby festival will feature in next week’s Pattaya Mail.
