PSC Golf from The Billabong Golf Bar

Monday, June 22, The Emerald – Stableford

Emerald was the venue for Monday and playing in benign conditions it made for a good day out, the only thing was the markers were all on the blue tees, which made for an interesting game of golf. Some of the scores attest to that with the worst being 20 points from a 12 handicapper, who will remain nameless for fear of retribution.

We were only a small group today so only first and second were in the running and those two golfers had the same score, 33 points, but George Barrie took the first prize and promptly rang the bell.  His elation was due to getting the edge over Paul Blackshaw on a count back, courtesy of a better back-nine.  Mind you, it does help when you get two shots on 12, 13 and 14, very hard to beat in a count back against that.

There were no ‘2’s, but if you think about the length of these par threes you can imagine why.

Wednesday, June 24, Green Valley – Stableford

We travelled down to Green Valley today for our monthly Globaleye tournament, proudly sponsored by Brian Chapman.  The course was in great condition apart from the greens, which had just been sanded, but we were forewarned by the management so no complaints, and this work has to be done at some time so we can keep playing a great golf course.

The scores were very good considering the level of sand on some of the greens.

Bob Newell returned a level par round, net of course, and took fourth place on a 4-way count back over Anucha Pulbrook, Sumalee Wild and Sel Wegner.  Third place went to Saipin Woollett with a net 70, and second to Arch Armstrong with a net 68, but the winner was a long way in front, shooting 86 off the stick playing off a 23 handicap to record a net 63.  The lady in question was Nichawan Khiaophuang (Sa), one of regular lady players on our Wednesday game.  Well done Sa, you now qualify for the annual Globaleye trophy to be played just after Christmas.

There were two ‘2’s, coming from Saipin Woollett, that being her first ever birdie, and Bob Newell.

Friday, June 26, Burapha – Stableford

Playing Burapha on Friday, it rained all the way to the course and was still raining when we got outside after paying our fees, but the intrepid group never gave up and it turned out to be a perfect day for golf.  The course was in magnificent condition, as it normally is, with fast and true greens and rough not too bad.

The scores were very good, I think mainly due to the conditions with a lot of cloud cover and no rain.  A 2-way count back on 38 points decided fourth place between Lloyd Shuttleworth and Rosco Langoulant, with Lloyd getting the nod over Rosco who lamented a wash on the last hole that took him out of the prizes.

Dave Buchanan took third prize with a fantastic 69 gross off a handicap of scratch after having to give George Barrie 23 shots start, but getting beaten on a count back with 39 points, a fine effort indeed.  George Barrie took second, obviously also with 39 points, but coming in the top spot was Kevin Waycott playing off a 9 handicap, but playing to a 4 with 41 stableford points.  A great round of golf Kev well done!

There were two ‘2’s, coming from Scott Baumgarten and Kevin Waycott.
