Wednesday, July 16, Silky Oak – Stableford

There were six groups out on Monday at Pattavia but the competition was called off after nine holes due to the torrential rain, a couple of groups continued and finished the round but the rest were given nine hole rain checks.

Wednesday we had another six groups out, with the cut set at 10-17 and 18+ in the two divisions.  This was our second time here in six weeks and everyone enjoyed the course yet again.

Chris Voller returned the best score of the day, winning division 1 with 39 points, while Tony Bless, now playing off 15, occupied second place with 37.  Harry Vincenzi filled the final spot on the podium with 36 points.

Colin Aspinall was the winner in division 2 with 34 points, five ahead of second placed Rod Howett, and the two Welsh boys fought it out for third place, Jimmy Johnson edging Curtis Hessler 14/12 on the back-nine count back after both came in with 28 points each.

Near pins went to Alan Bissell, Paul Butler, Hitoshi Takezaki, Chris Voller, Colin Aspinall and Pepo Frick.

Colin Aspinall recorded the only birdie ‘2’ of the day on the 14th hole to scoop the division 2 pool.

Friday, July 18, Eastern Star – Stableford

Six groups out yet again today at Eastern Star, on slightly cloudy day with a cool breeze coming off the coast.  There was a 9-15 cut in division 1 and 16+ in division 2 and the organizer Glyn Evans came in with the best score of the day, winning division 2 with 37 points after beating a sad Joe Kubon 20/19 on the back nine.  Ken Miller took third with 36 points.

Grenville Hill was the winner in division 1 with 35 points and Karl Flood placed second after beating Chris Voller 14/10 on the back six holes, both scoring 34 points in total.

Tony Bless birdied the 17th to win the division 1 rollover ‘2’s pot.

Near pins were claimed by Tony Bless, Paul Butler (2), Wilf Latham, Glyn Evans and Rodney Howett.
