Thai badminton, boxing teams qualify for next rounds

LONDON, 1 August 2012  – Thailand participated in quite a few events on Tuesday at the London 2012 Summer Olympics. The Thai badminton teams and a boxer contestant claimed their victory and advanced to the next round. 

Thai badminton mixed doubles team of Sudkhet Prapakamol and Saralee Thoungthongkam proceded into the Olympics badminton quarter finals.

The world No.6 Sudket and Saralee, who also reached the last eight in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, beat Malaysian players by 21-16 and 21-15 in their last Group D preliminary round match.

On the other hand, Thai women single badminton player Ratchanok Inthanon won her match against Telma Santos from Portugal by 2 sets, 21-12 and 21-6 pushing her through the final 16. She will play against Julian Shengh from Germany in the next round.

Light Flyweight Boxer Kaew Pongprayoon defeated Algeria’s Mohamed Flissi. Early in the game, Flissi attacked dangerously; however Kaew had the speed advantage and gave the Algerian much pressure. At the end of the game, the judges awarded the Thai boxer the victory by 19-11 points.

At the London 2012, Thai athletes also participated in canoeing, windsurfing, swimming, and equestrian events but all were eliminated.
