Monday, April 10, Pattana – Stableford

There were seven groups out Monday and the fairest and most equal cut was 8-16.5 in division 1 and 16.7 plus in division 2.  We were playing the A and B nines today and the course was in good condition with some tough tee placements.

Playing off 11 for the last time, Jerry Sweetnam scored 40 points to win division 1, one ahead of Neil gamble in second while Paul Young beat Ian Speirs for third courtesy of a 17/16 back nine-count back after they both came in with 36 points each.

Rick Assi had an amazing 25 points after nine holes in division 2 but it was all downhill from there on in and he had to settle for second place on 37 points, losing out to Fred Temminick on a 17/12 back-nine count back.  Bob Poole was third after beating Bill Kana on another count back, both coming in with 34 points.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Don Head, David Thomas and Ian Speirs, and (Div 2) Rick Assi, Neil Gamble, Jeff Greer and Joseph Toner.

There was only one ‘2’ today and it went to Don Head in division 1.

Wednesday, April 12, Green Valley – Stableford

This was supposed to be our last game here before the course shuts down for renovation but the management could not confirm this today or update us at all.  The cut today in the two divisions was made at 5-16 and 17+.

After a manual reduction of one shot on his handicap after Monday’s game, Jerry Sweetnam scores 35 points to win division 1 today while Barry Wellings was second, beating Bob Comartin on a back six count back after they both came in with 32 points.

Paul Butler’s 34 points won him division 2 honours, with Joseph Toner second on 31 and Magne Gunnarson third with 30 points.

Near pins were claimed by (Div 1) Tony Bless, Wayne Croker and Jerry Sweetnam, and (Div 2) Paul Butler and Chris Slota.

There were no ‘2’s today in either division so one rollover in division 1 and two in division to Silky Oaks after our Khao Yai Songkran trip.

Friday, April 14, Eastern Star – Stableford

There were a few intermittent showers for the first three holes at Eastern Star on Friday but then the skies cleared and we had perfect, though hot, conditions for the rest of the round.

Tony Thorne recorded the best score of the day, winning division 2 with 40 points while Colin Aspinall took second after beating David Jailler on a 17/15 back-nine count back, both with 35 points overall.

Wayne Croker, playing off 12, won division 1 with 38 points, Bill Bertram was second three points behind and Marc Brunner placed third with 33 points.

Near pins went to (Div 1) Marc Brunner, Brian Green and Paul Renall, and (Div 2) Paul Butler, Frank Kelly and Tony Thorne.

No ‘2’s in division 1 today but in division two Wayne Croker’s father Don, now in his mid eighties, birdied the 17th to scoop the pot.
