Bunker Boys @ The Bowling Green

Monday, April 9, Bangprakong – Medal

The start of the annual exodus from Pattaya before Songkran, combined with the final day of the Master’s tournament, meant that we had the smallest field of the year so far turning out for the trip to Bangprakong.

The course was in it’s usual great condition, but the weather was swelteringly hot for the first nine holes, before the breeze eventually picked up.  The pace of the round was slow as the first group was behind a Thai 5-ball, but there was no chance of getting through, since they were being held up as well.

J.J. looks happy after 3 near pins, and 2 second places. J.J. looks happy after 3 near pins, and 2 second places.

Despite the slow round, both Colin Greig and J.J. were in splendid form, both carding nett 69, but Colin won the day on the count back

2nd J.J. Harney (10) net 69

3rd Nigel Cannon (20) net 73

Wednesday, April 11, Treasure Hill – Stableford

A larger field of golfers today arrived at the course to find it pleasantly quiet and the weather conditions seemingly good. Unfortunately the good weather didn’t last too long, and by the time the first group reached the 5th hole a thunder storm blew in.  After a delay of about 45 minutes, many golfers struggled to get back in the groove.  Not so for Paul Smith, who shot a tremendous back nine of 4 under par (32), and finished with a score of 71 gross (40 points), to easily win the day.

John Graham also shot a fine score on his last game before heading back to the Middle East for another spell of work.  Not so good though for Gordon Melia, also playing his last game before heading off on the annual migration to the U.K.  All the best Gordon, give our regards to Marion, and we look forward to seeing you both again in the autumn.

1st Paul Smith (3) 40pts

2nd John Graham (10) 35pts

3rd Mark Stanley (12) 34pts

4th Geoff Cox (15) 34pts

Near Pins:  Dave Ashman, Colin Greig, William Macey, and Geoff Cox

Friday, April 13, Rayong C.C. – Stableford

It’s quite some time since we last played at Rayong C.C. because of the poor condition of the course.  Even though today was a public holiday, the course was quiet and most golfers took advantage of the special offer for sharing a buggy.  It was a pleasant surprise to everyone to find the condition of the course has improved significantly since our last visit.

There were no holdups on the way round and back at the Bowling Green everyone agreed that it was worthwhile putting this course back on the schedule.

Tony Robbins won the day on a count back over JJ, but a special mention for Les Burns, who almost made a rare visit to the podium.  Keep it up Les, we’ll get that handicap down eventually.

1st Tony Robbins (12) 33pts

2nd J.J. Harney (11) 33pts

3rd Lee Butler (16) 31pts

4th Les Burns (28) 30pts

Near Pins:  Colin Greig, and J.J. Harney (3)

Note:  The Bunker Boys are a PSC affiliated golf society who now play out of the Bowling Green on Soi X-Zyte between Pattaya 3rd Road and Soi Buakhaow.  We play three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so if you enjoy a fun day out, and a friendly but competitive golf competition why not come and join us.

We meet at the Bowling Green at 9 a.m. for breakfast and transportation, and new players with valid handicaps are always welcome.  For more information call Dave on 087 146 9978, email [email protected].
