Monday, Sept. 4, Bangpra – Stableford

1st Nick Odnoral (20) 36pts

2nd Colin Smith (13) 34pts

3rd Bob Watson (5) 33pts

4th Phil Davies (13) 32pts

We certainly know that a bad day’s golf is better than a day at work (or something like that) but from 15 golfers today only one could play to handicap.  Nick Odnoral did it by scoring 36 points on a course that seemed in very good condition, considering it had not rained there for two days.  The greens where quicker than our last trip here two months ago, but there were variations of pace around the course, so no one could settle in to the speed.

The rough was tough to get free of, once again grass that would grab the club and dictate which way the ball was to go.

Colin Smith, the happy Welshman, had a good game to finish with 34 points and second place behind Nick.  Bob Watson was never going to be far from the action and scored 33 points to take third and in fourth place was Phil Davies off his newest handicap of 13.

The best nines for non-winners came from Derek Phillips (17pts) and Masa Tanako (15pts).

Friday, Sept. 8, Khao Kheow – Stableford

A Flight

1st Paul Smith (4) 40pts

2nd Kevin Rogers (12) 40pts

3rd Phil Davies (13) 37pts

B Flight

1st Wayne Peppernell (16) 40pts

2nd Vero Morgan (22) 32pts

3rd John Anderson (29) 30pts

Phil Davies commented “I’ve never played with an amateur golfer and seen 4 birdies in a row”.  But that’s what Paul Smith (h/c 4) did today on the C nine at Khao Kheow.  In all, 5 birdies for the round.

It was 21 golfers making their way to one of the best courses around.  Khao Kheow was presented in the usual wonderful condition, carts were allowed on firm fairways and the greens were quick.

Currently in form Kevin Rogers, after his 41 points on Wednesday came within a whisker of taking first spot again, however, Paul Smith had one point more in the count back.  Both players scored 40 points, a very good score for this course.  Phil Davies is returning to form and his new handicap of 13 looks in danger after he came third in “A” Flight with 37 points.

Because of the cut off to decide flights, Wayne Peppernell just sneaked into “B” Flight, and with another big round of 40 points easily took out the flight first prize.  Vero grabbed second place with a good first up 32 points and John Anderson took third in the flight with 30.

Wayne Peppernell and Kevin Rogers were successful in the near pins competition while the best nine for non-winners came from Adam Barton (19pts) and John Carlton (18pts).
