PSC Golf from The Billabong Golf Bar

Wednesday, July 1, Green Valley – Stableford

It was a case of the morning after the night before for the Billabong regulars who had played in the previous day’s inaugural charity golf day, with many were still nursing headaches after celebrating a very successful event.  But 16 diehards joined those that could not play on Tuesday for our regular Wednesday event at Green Valley.

Clear blue skies met us with hardly a cloud in sight and with only 12 cars in the car park we virtually had the course to ourselves.  The greens had been tined and dressed but this was no deterrent to returning some good scores.

Scramble winners: Simon Philbrook, Paul Hack, Bobby Driggs and Bob Newell.Scramble winners: Simon Philbrook, Paul Hack, Bobby Driggs and Bob Newell.

Wayne ‘beware the injured golfer’ Cotterell brought up the rear of three scores all on 38 points.  He had 23 points on the front nine but experienced some problems on the back nine with only 15 and lost out on second place to a visitor from Oz, Scott Baumgartner.  But standing on the top of podium was Saipin Woollett with the best back nine of the trio

The work on the greens, and the plastic surrounds being on a level with the grass (why do they do that?) caused some putting problems and there was only one ‘2’, coming from Wayne and adding to his winnings.

Friday, July 3, Plutaluang – Scramble

We were playing our monthly scramble event a week later than normal due to unforeseen circumstances.  It was a grand day out with ten teams participating and we got away a little early, which was great.  We played the West and North loops, a good test of golf, and the course was in great condition with greens that were not only tricky, but if you got above the hole you had an impossible putt coming down hill.

The scores were fantastic with the top three teams all in the 50s, which doesn’t happen on these nines normally.  In third place we had the team of Ted Gardner, Noi Gardner, Tony Oakes and Graham Beaumont with a net score of 58.4.  Coming second was a three man team of Ron Gale, Auke and Gentry Harrington with a net score of 57.9, while first place went to the team from the Players Lounge, Bob Newell, Simon Philbrook, Paul Hack and a ringer by the name of Bobby Driggs, with a good score of 57.7.  As usual, the winners of this event rang the bell back at the bar, well done fellas!  The next scramble will be held on July 31.

Note: The Billabong is situated just off Siam Country Club Road looking straight down Lake Mabprachan. Give Bob a call on 082 204 3411 if you are looking for a game.
