PSC Golf Bunker Boys at The Ranch

Monday, Feb. 8, Khao Kheow (yellow tees) – Stableford

Twenty-two Bunker Boys made the trek up the motorway to play the always challenging Khao Kheow Country Club.  The weather was most obliging and it was a perfect day for golf: twenty-eight degrees, blue skies, with a slight, almost cool breeze.

Tony Scambler. Tony Scambler.

The two Tony’s were the men of the day: Tony Scambler posting a very nice 40 stableford points, and Tony Robbins missing a hole-n-one on the island green by inches.  A tap in birdie is such a nice feeling.

A Flight

1st Tony Scambler (12) 40pts

2nd Gerry Cooney (17) 35pts

3rd Alan Freeman (5) 34pts

B Flight

1st Arthur Rowley (31) 35pts

2nd Trevor Priestly (22) 33pts

3rd Peter Habgood (24) 32pts

Near Pins: Paul Carey, Peter Mannion, Keith Norman, Tony Robbins.

Wednesday, Feb. 10, The Emerald – Medal

The track today looked more like a Manhattan brownstone than a richly green gemstone: brown, parched hardpan areas everywhere.  Management most definitely needs to do a rain dance.

The scores reflected the poor conditions with numerous scorecards being ripped up and set a sail.  Not a single player was able to play to his handicap, and a net 76 took first place.

1st Geoff Parker (13) net 76

2nd Greg Berry (15) net 77

3rd Dave Ashman (17) net 77

Near Pins: Gordon Melia, Peter Mannion, Alex Kilcoyne.

Friday, Feb. 12, Mt. Shadow (blue tees) – Stableford

It seemed like every golf society in Pattaya was gathered at the first tee on this beautiful Friday morning.  After a long wait it was difficult for the BB’s to get their mojo working and, again today, no one was able to play to his handicap: a mere 26 stableford average.

The word scruffy is not to be used lightly but most assuredly describes the condition of the track today: leaves, branches, grass cuttings, paper and cigarette butts strewn here and there and everywhere.  Very unusual for such a nice course.

1st Mike Corner (19) 34pts

2nd Gerry Cooney (17) 31pts

3rd Ed Graham (10) 30pts

Near Pins: Tony Robbins, Jimmy Carr, Mike Corner, Andy Scambler.
