Phoenix Gold was the choice for the 147th PSC Monthly on Wednesday, November 11, with the Mountain & Ocean nines the combination as the Lakes nine is still not yet finished. There were several cancellations for various reasons but no actual “no-shows” and we ended up with a healthy field of 104.

Registration went fairly smoothly and there were no latecomers to slow things down although the extra players over and above what we had booked did cause a bit of waiting time throughout the day, but most players were patient and there were few complaints.

Golf Chairman Maurice Roberts, together with Peter Blackburn, Dick Warberg and Mark West (not on crutches but hobbling with a walking stick and an umbrella after his recent knee surgery) arrived at the course early to prepare for the players arrival, together with the Phoenix Gold staff who were on hand and extremely helpful.  Thanks also goes out to Tom Herrington who took the winner’s photos.

On this occasion the A Flight played medal off the blue tees, B Flight played stableford off the white tees and C & D Flights played stableford off the yellow tees, with Ladies/Seniors playing stableford off the red & silver tees.

The low gross winner on the day was David Rose (H/cap 3) who carded a 78 gross.

A Flight was won by Narula Narongsak (12) who won on count back from Bill McGarvie and Gerd Riedler after all three finished on net 74.

Bjorn-Olof Noren took the B Flight honours with a fine round of 42 points while C Flight was won by Peter Bygballe (20) with 41.

The D Flight winner was Karl Beter (30) who edged a count back over Carl Hellstrom & Colm O’Donovan with all of them scoring 38 points each.

In the Ladies/Seniors Flight it was Lise-Lotte Boskov (20) who was declared the winner after scoring a magnificent 44 points.

The 50/50 Draw winner was Svend Hommell.

The presentation and prize giving was this time back at Jamesons and the food was terrific and plenty of it.  Many thanks to Kim Fletcher and staff for an excellent buffet.

Time for the presentation and Peter Blackburn welcomed all and introduced Golf Chairman Maurice Roberts who expressed his appreciation to the day’s players and those who assisted him at the course, and also to the PSC office staff for the pre-tournament work.  Maurice provided an update on Green Fee vouchers with the news that negotiations were currently underway with several golf courses.  He also thanked Judy & Moon for assisting by selling the 50/50 tickets.

Peter then announced the winners and Maurice, Dick & Andre presented the prizes followed by the Lucky Draw and 50/50 Draw.
