PSC Golf from the Outback Golf Bar

With Lake Mabprachan diminishing by the day as all the water is poured over anything that moves in Pattaya, we hosted a three day tournament away from the madness by using some special course rates available.  Our event kicked off at the fabulous Siam Plantation course, a favorite of mine personally.  The course was in perfect condition and we were lucky enough to get onto Sugar Cane and Tapioca, the best 2 out of 3 nines IMHO.

Heikki Kiviniemi played a great round to finish the day on 41 points, followed by Bob Mattes on 39 and Reijo Heiskanen with 37.

Outback golfers prepare to take on Siam Old Course.

Day 2 was at Siam Old Course, where the stimp meter on the day was reading 10.5, and judging by how the balls rolled on the greens, it felt like 13!  The course was in perfect condition and very enjoyable with greens running true and very fast, causing some headaches.  Best score of the day was Reijo Heiskanen with 38 points, followed by Andre on 37 and Steve Mann on 35.

Day 3 was at Pattana with an earlier tee time (trying to beat the heat) and again the course was presented in beautiful condition.  We were playing the difficult B & C nines from the white tees.

Playing in order of standings, the leaders after day’s 1 and 2 played together, but it soon became apparent that the rest of us mere mortals had no chance as Reijo Heiskanen played amazingly well, recording long putt birdies on several holes (for 5pts) incl. back to back birdies on the stroke 1 and stroke 5 holes on the back nine to post a once in a lifetime round of 47 points.

Reijo has played with the Outback throughout for the last 6 months and been on tour with us to Hua Hin, Soi Dao and a few others, and he was astonished after an otherwise dreary performance throughout the season.

With Reijo playing so well throughout the 3 days, he beat the field by a large margin with his total of 122 points, resulting also in a 4.2 shot handicap reduction after the week.  In second place, Steve Mann did really well on 108 points, scoring an average of exactly 36 each day.  Bob Mattes, who also performed well throughout finished in 3rd place on 106 while Heikki Kiviniemi had a tough last day which pushed him from joined first after 2 days to fourth place overall on 103.  Brad Jordison did enough on the last day to push Andre out of the prizes and capture fifth spot with 101.

Well done everyone on a fabulous 3-day event at great courses that everyone enjoyed.
