Monday, August 13, Eastern Star – Stableford

A public holiday today and we were at Eastern Star with a two divisional stableford competition and also the conclusion of a 36-hole contest which included the previous Friday’s scores as well.

The course was very busy today but with the majority of groups behind us, we still got around in 3 hours 40 minutes.

Wilf Latham, semi-retired and back with us, returned a score of 35 to win division 1 ahead of Mikael Andersson in second two points behind and Jon Lay, finally finishing 18 holes, was third with 32.

‘Countback’ Burnie reversed the normal procedure by winning division 2 after beating Chris Reed 18/17 on the back nine, both coming in with 34 points.  Rodney Howett, a trifle embarrassed, picked up third prize with 30 points.

In the overall two day competition, Wilf Latham beat Mikael Andersson on a 35/33 count back after they both recorded 68 points and in third place was Chris Voller with 67.

Wednesday, August 15, Khao Kheow – Stableford

Our first visit here for many months and we started on the par 5 on the C course around the water – a tough opening hole for everyone.  The first four groups teed off with no one in the water, then came the fifth group with all division one players and it was a wet outcome for the majority.

The cut today was 7-17 and 18+ and the best score of the day came from Jeff Cordeiro, playing of 10, who won Division 1 with 38 points, scoring 17 on the front nine and 21 on the B course.  Dave Richards took second on 35 and Bryan Rought beat Daniel Willets on a 18/15 back nine count back for third after they both came in with 32 points.

Lee Casey toped division 2 with 30 points followed by Chris Reed who beat Roar Berger on a 18/17 back nine count back after returning a meagre 28 points.

Near pins went to Mike Chatt, Bryan Rought (2), Chris Voller, David Phillips and Fred Temminck.

Chris Voller birdied C3 and C8, and Dave Richards and Bryan Rought both birdied B3 to split the ‘2’s pot in Division 1 while Fred Temminck scored the only birdie ‘2’ in Division 2.

Friday, August 17, Eastern Star – Stableford

The cut today was 7-17 in division 1 but the best score came in division 2 from Chris Reed who was in his last game with us before he returned Down Under to his teaching career.  Chris came in with 36 points to lead the organiser in second by three, while there was a warm welcome back to Tony Holehouse who lost out to Joe Kubon on a 16/12 back nine count back for third after they both scored 29 points.

Thirty-four points won division 1 honours for Marty Rock and Chris Voller beat Jon Lay 19/17 on the back nine for second after they both came in with 33 points.

Daniel Willits scored the only ‘2’ of the day to secure the rollover pot in Division 1.

Near pins went to Marty Rock, Daniel Willets, Darryl Blair, Rodney Howett and Sid Ottaway.

The Chiang Mai trip has now been penciled in for the week commencing 21st October with four rounds of golf on the Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, a four day overall competition with individual contests for 2/3 divisions on each day.  Contact Jomtien Golf and Siam Cats on Soi 5 Jomtien Beach Road for more information.
