With Chonburi this year hosting the National Disabled Sports Games’, athletes at Pattaya’ Redemptorist Foundation schools are feeling the pressure to win.

Udomchok Choorat, director of the Redemptorist School for the Disabled, said athletes have been training since May for the games under the guidance of 94 coaches with the intent of dominating the medal count.

The school certainly aims to sweep wheelchair-based events, such as track and field, badminton, weight lifting, petanque, table tennis, sepak takraw, basketball, archery, futsal, tennis, boxing, and fencing.

The Foundation will send 349 disabled and blind athletes to the Jan. 23-27 games, which will feature 29 different sporting disciplines.  Udomchok said the school is aiming for 90 gold medals, with 54 in track and field alone.
