PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society

Monday, Sept. 28, Bangpakong – Stableford

It was a gloomy Monday morning as we headed out of Pattaya with a full busload and with rain clouds overhead and it was fingers crossed as we made our way to Bangpakong Riverside Golf Course for our first game of the week.

During the journey it did rain a little bit but we were confident that all would be well, and it was.  After an hour’s drive we arrived at the course to find it fairly quiet and we were invited to tee off as soon as we were ready so our first of three groups got away about 5 minutes earlier than our scheduled 10.07am tee time.

Christian Boysen & Frank Donnelly.

After some heavy overnight rain there were no carts allowed on the fairways with the course being wet in parts but in actual fact there were very few wet patches on the fairways and naturally we allowed ‘mark, lift, clean & place’ on the fairways and first cut.  Notwithstanding the wet conditions, the golf course was in great shape and one of our group commented that walking down the fairways was akin to walking on pile carpet and although the bunkers were fairly ordinary after the rain the greens were in great shape.

Our pace was quite good with no hold ups ahead and all our groups finished their rounds in a little over four hours.  Not a drop of rain was sighted throughout the round and although it was extremely hot & humid it was a very enjoyable outing on a fine golf course.  It was then back to the Phantom Bar for presentations and complimentary, delicious hamburgers.

Frank “Woody” Donnelly was the winner on the day with a fine 39 points, just 1 point ahead of your writer, Peter “Blacky” Blackburn who found some form after a fairly miserable few weeks and finished second.  There were 3 golfers with 34 points so a count back was required which resulted in third place going to Christian Boysen (18 point back nine), with Walter Baechli (17 point back nine) and Mogens Melander (15 point back nine) just missing out.

1st Frank Donnelly (23) 39pts

2nd Peter Blackburn (15) 38pts

3rd Christian Boysen (13) 34pts

Near Pins: 13th – Mike Allidi

Long Putts: 18th – Peter Blackburn

Wednesday, Sept. 30, Burapah C & D – Stableford

With a later than normal tee time of 10.33am booked we relaxed at the Phantom Bar enjoying breakfast & complimentary coffee before heading off to the classy Burapha Golf Course.  After the 30 minute drive we arrived to find it not too busy and the Starter outside the Clubhouse offered us the option of either combination of nines so we opted for the C & D nines and were invited to commence at our leisure.

We had 3 three-balls so with no-one in front of us our first group got away at 10.00am and proceeded at a cracking pace.  The course was as ever in great shape with lush fairways and superbly kept greens and even after the recent heavy rain in the area there was hardly any sign of wet playing conditions.

After a very quick C nine we were briefly held up by a Korean four ball who had sneaked onto the D nine but they kindly let us through which enabled us to complete our round in the super quick time of three hours.  It had been a very enjoyable round although quite hot on a terrific golf course.

After many games of mediocre golf, Christian “Psycho” Boysen hit his straps and won the day with a fine 38 points after having 7 consecutive three putts on the second nine!  In second place it was your writer Peter “Blacky” Blackburn who put together another solid round of 36 points and Phil Davies came third with 33 points.

1st Christian Boysen (13) 38pts

2nd Peter Blackburn (15) 36pts

3rd Phill Davies (13) 33pts
