2nd Colin Davis (20) 36pts

Another Sunday early morning at Green Valley, the course was in its normal condition and the sky was overcast but with no sign of rain – perfect conditions for playing golf.

We had a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard today with Phil Davies, Colin Davis and Mogens Melander all returning with even par rounds of 36 points.  Phil managed to take the win with a more heavily weighted back nine as Colin had to settle for second and Mogens third.  Charles Murray was but a point adrift in fourth spot.

A beautiful day and a beautiful golf course awaited the players for this month’s Phantom Cup.  The only problem was we had originally booked for 10 tee times, but the day before the comp we went to the course and told them we needed an extra tee time.  When we got to the course on the day I saw the marketing Lady and confirmed we needed the extra playing slot but she did nothing about it.  They waited till the 10th tee time and then said that was it, no more people to go out, and sent the last 4 ball home, of which 2 were members of Siam Old.

No apology and no attempt to reconcile the problem was made.  This spoilt the whole day and it will be a long time before we are back at this course.

We ended up with 2 flights, A flight off the blue tees and B flight off the whites and some very good scores were posted.

Colm O’Donavan was just visiting for a couple of days but he left on a high after winning the B flight with 41 points, one ahead of Allan Bargestan and William Peach respectively.

John Pierrel stormed to victory in the top division with 42 points, five ahead of Christen Boysen in second while Jim Bell took third with an even par 36 points.

There were technical prizes on all the holes and surprise, surprise, the nearest to the keg was won by Steve Baker who is tea total – but he has a lot of friends!

Friday, August 5, Mt. Shadow – Stableford

A Flight

1st Steve Baker (18) 38pts

2nd Frank Jelo (7) 37pts

3rd Christen Boysen (9) 36pts

B Flight

1st Barry Oat’s (23) 40pts

2nd Graham Buckingham (26) 39pts

3rd Torben Lindgaard (30) 38pts

Near Pins: Allan Bargison, Barry Oats.

Long Putt: Rune Askdal.

This was our first trip back to Mountain Shadow for about 3 months and one look at the car park and it seemed we were not the only ones who had stopped going there.  The course is still a great layout but needs a lot of attention to tidy it up.  Long gone are the tricky fast greens as everyone putts were coming up short and if you missed a fairway it took a long time to find your ball.  Still, we had a good turnout of 20 golfers.

Barry Oats recorded the top score of the day, 40 points, to win the B flight ahead of Graham Buckingham and Torben Lindgaard in second and third respectively at one point margins.

Steve Baker also had a fine round of 38 points to take out the top flight while Frank Jelo rolled in second and Christen Boysen third.
