PSC Golf from the Phantom Golf Society

Monday, April 27, Khao Kheow C & A – Stableford

Just a handful of starters for this game at Khao Kheow, which is a great value golf course at the moment when using the green fee vouchers from the PSC.

Our first group, a three-ball teed off on C1 about 15 minutes earlier than our scheduled 10.05am tee time in hot conditions and with not much breeze.  We found the course in great shape with very well maintained greens.

With a five-ball in front of us the going was at first rather slow but after the fourth hole we were able to get through them and then proceeded at a very good pace, finishing the round in about three hours & forty five minutes.  At one stage the weather was threatening and we had a few drops of rain but it only lasted for a few minutes.

(Left-right) Nick Shaw, Patsada & Peter Henshaw.

Fresh from his recent overall victory in Hua Hin, it was “Mr San Miguel Light” Ian Pickles who was declared the winner, one point ahead of Steve Truelove in second spot.

1st Ian Pickles (15) 34pts

2nd Steve Truelove (9) 33pts

Friday, May 1, Phoenix Mountain & Ocean – Stableford

It was May Day, a Thai Public Holiday but it was also the 45th birthday of Phantom Bar’s Christian Boysen so a “Birthday Bash” competition was appropriate and thanks to Nat of Phoenix we were able to play at normal weekday rates.

We had an exceptional field with 42 golfers participating and even though there was a bit of a mix up with the start times we were able to use 2 tees and hit off at 11.12am under very dark skies and much thunder in the area.  We were all convinced that it was going to be a wet one but miraculously not one drop of rain fell and an interruption free round was enjoyed by all, most completing in around four hours & twenty minutes.

There were various prizes on every hole which added to the interest and also created a lot of fun giving all standard of golfers a chance to win something.

After the golf it was back to The Phantom Bar for the birthday celebrations and presentations where an excellent crowd was present with all the golfers from the day plus many friends of the “Birthday Boy”.  There was fantastic food provided by Hotel Dania and it was certainly worth waiting for with plenty to eat for all.  We must give thanks to Christian Boysen for putting on the day and also to Nat of Phoenix Golf Course for his help and also providing Green Fee Vouchers and Phoenix Caps, which were given away in a lucky draw.

In the A Flight it was Nick Shaw who came in with a tremendous 43 points to emerge the winner from Jack Grindvold, whose 71 gross gave him 41 points and second place.  It was your writer, Peter Blackburn, who continued his good form and took third spot with 39 points and with 2 golfers on 38 points a count back was required which saw veteran Ken Hole (19 point back nine) finish fourth and the “Birthday Boy” Christian (17 point back nine) just missing out.

We had another close finish in the B Flight with two on 39 points and the resultant count back meant that Peter Henshaw (20 point back nine) was declared the winner from Tore Eliassen (19 point back nine) in second place.  Yet another count back was required to determine third & fourth spots with 2 players on 38 points and that resulted in Bobby Rattanaruangs (19 point back nine) prevailing over Bernard Green (18 point back nine).

In the Ladies Flight it was Patsada Ryves who took the honors with a fabulous 46 points.
