PSC Golf from the Ferdinand Golf

Monday, March 9, Greenwood A & C – Stableford

This was the third of our Monthly Tournaments and once again we had a terrific number of golfers participating in the event, which had many lucrative rewards including prizes on every hole for A & B flights and a fabulous prize for a hole in one on the par three C8 hole.  There were also prizes for the top five in each flight and the chance to qualify for a place in the Ferdinand Championship Tournament, to be played at the end of this year.

Checking in went extremely smoothly with our first tee time at 10.40 am from 2 tees, A & C and our first groups were able to get away a few minutes ahead of schedule.  The weather was terrific but fairly hot and the golf course was in terrific shape and with very few delays during the round there were practically no reports of slow play.  Many thanks go to the Greenwood management & staff for their help & cooperation during the event.

Thanks also goes to our hole sponsors: Ferdinand Bar, Phantom Bar, RR123 Remodel & Construction, Solens Autolakerer, Anna Coffee & Drink, DTA Transport, Beergarden Restaurant, Alby & Micky Pizza, Lewinski’s, Pizza Italiano, Hotel Dania, Beefeater Steakhouse & Zanzi Bar.

Presentations were at the Phantom Bar that evening with the delicious buffet supper provided by Hotel Dania and once again the place was packed and excellent live music entertained us all.

After the meal it was time for presentations.  The rule of the day was that winners had to be present on the evening to receive their awards and the awards that weren’t collected will carry forward to the next Monthly Monday Tournament on April 6 at Phoenix Golf Course.  As it was all of the “novelty” prize winners were in attendance so there were no carry overs for that reason.  The Flight winners were then announced followed by the announcement of the five qualifiers for the Ferdinand Championship at the end of next year, this month being Geoff Parker, John Hughes, Bill Steinman, Donald McMillan and Terry Mangan.

Thursday, March 12, Silky Oak – Stableford

Silky Oak was the choice for a pleasant change and although the Green Valley complex was packed with a very big tournament being played there, it was nice and quiet on the Silky Oak course and we got our first four-ball away ahead of our 11.30 am scheduled time.

The weather was great with a nice breeze to cool things down and the course was in good shape, although some did find the greens a bit hard to handle.  With the large distances between many greens to tees it made for a rather slow round and ours was completed in a little over four and a half hours.  I must say I enjoyed the day as the course is different and local knowledge is certainly a big advantage, although this was only my second time.

Nick Shaw took the honours with a fine 38 points, two points ahead of Jacob Olsen in second place and your writer scraped into third spot with an honest 36 points.

1st Nick Shaw (19) 40pts

2nd Jacob Olsen (8) 38pts

3rd Peter Blackburn (15) 36pts

Near Pins: #5 Christian Boysen.

Long Putts:  #18 Nick Shaw.
