A Flight

Nineteen players started there tour of Khao Yai in style with all the podium spots filled with 40 points or more.  The format was the three best scores from the same player would be the overall winner.

Winning A Flight and the first day was Tony ‘the glove’ Oakes with a fantastic 45 points, which made Reg McKay’s excellent 44 points look rather tame.  This left Keith Warboys to close the flight with a rock solid 41-pointer.

The action in B Flight was just as fierce as George Young took the top step on the podium with a fine 44 points.  George was two strokes clear of Billy ‘the hat’ Eyles while R2 rounded out the flight with 41 points.

Thursday, Oct. 26, Toscana Valley & Rancho Charvee

1st Martin Zimmerman (14) 37pts

2nd Mark Watkins (24) 35pts

3rd Billy Eyles (23) 34pts

Today the lads had a choice to play either Toscana Valley or Rancho Charvee.  Out of the lads that chose to play Toscana Valley it was Mark Zimmerman who stood atop the podium with a steady 37 points.  Martin was two clear of Mark Watkins and a further shot clear of Billy Eyles.

The remainder of the lads played Rancho Charvee with R2 taking the day’s honours with a sparkling 40 points.  The man leading the comp took the second spot on the podium with a39 points and Bill Peach closed the flight with an even par round.

Friday, Oct. 27,
Khao Yai G.C. – Stableford

A Flight

1st Daryl Ottaway (9) 38pts

2nd Martin Zimmerman (14) 38pts

3rd Reg McKay (15) 35pts

B Flight

1st Bill Peach (21) 44pts

2nd Mark Watkins (24) 42pts

3rd Billy Eyles (23) 37pts

It was B Flight who had the bragging rights today as Bill Peach took the top spot in the flight and the match honours with an excellent 44 points.  Bill was two strokes clear of Mark Watkins and this left Billy’ the hat’ Eyles to tidy up the flight.

Darrel Ottaway took the honours in A flight but he needed the aid of a count-back over the on form Mark Zimmerman as both were tied on 38 points. Scotland’s Buckie boy Reg McKay closed the flight with 35 points.

Saturday, Oct. 28, Bonanza G.C. –
Blind Pairs

1st Tim Lazecki & Billy Eyles 77pts

2nd Fred Birch & Ronald Robertson 71pts

3rd Reg McKay & Daryl Ottaway 67pts

Today the lads had a rest from the competition and played a blind pairs bash. Tim Lazecki and Billy Eyles were the winners with 77 points, the second pair was Fred Birch and R2 with 71 points and Reg McKay and Daryl Ottaway filled third place with 67.

Sunday, Oct. 29, Bonanza G.C. – Stableford

A Flight

2nd Daryl Ottaway (9) 40pts

3rd Reg McKay (15) 39pts

B Flight

1st Bill Peach (21) 40pts

2nd Mark Watkins (24) 39pts

3rd George Young (32) 37pts

Tournament leader Tony Oakes kept his nerve and put together a top flight and match-winning 43 points for a victory that will be talked about for some time.  Tony was three clear of Daryl Ottaway whose card contained fourteen pars and Scotland’s Reg McKay closed the flight out.

Bill Peach was top man in B f light with a fine 40 points.  Mark Watkins took the second podium step a stroke adrift and third place was claimed by George Young with 37 points.
