PSC Golf from The Billabong Golf Bar

Friday, July 31, Plutaluang – 4P Scramble

Getting away a little early from the Billabong we headed down 331 to the Plutaluang golf course, under high cloud hoping it wasn’t going to rain as it did on Wednesday and only getting nine holes in before retiring wet and cold.

We played the West and North courses today and got away early thanks to the efficient starter lady.  With 19 teams of four we imagined it was going to be a long day out but we were all back in the clubhouse by 2 p.m. which was great.  The scores were good and my thanks go to all the players who support this day and make it a thoroughly enjoyable event.

Scramble winners: John O’Keefe, Phil Payne, Joe Kyle and David Brien.

As it was the start of Buddhist lent there were no bars open so the presentation was done at the Baan Tong Tong Resort and our sincere thanks go to Mick Williams and his lovely staff for looking after us.  This resort is situated just off the railway line road within a 10 minute drive to central Pattaya and a very quiet place to stay and play.

We welcomed 4 groups of golfers from Perth, Australia to join us and they had a fun time out there today.  The course was in good condition and as is always the case in these events, you have to get the putts to go in to turn a good score into a great one.

We had two NAGA awards today and it was a pleasure to give these out as the prize was a 1000 baht voucher for food and drinks at the resort.  One was taken by the team of John Lawton, Phil Waite, Willem Lasonder and Brian Maddox with a score of 70.  Taking the other NAGA award was the team of Chris Page, Don Walding, Mark Harper and George Barrie with a score of 69.9.

In the winners’ circle, coming in fourth with 60.3, was the quartet of Ken Williams, Midge Riley, Bob Webb and Mike Davidson while third place went to Tom Hand, Steve Compton, Mike O’Brien and John Baikie with a score of 59.5.

Runners-up: John Player, Eng Cotterell, Kevin Waycott and Paul Hack.

The runners-up on the day with a score of 59.3 were John Player, Eng Cotterell, Kevin Waycott and Paul Hack, but playing in this event for the first time and shooting a fine 58.9 to take first place was the team of John O’Keefe, Phil Payne, Joe Kyle and David Brien.  Congratulations on winning the title guys and hope to see you come back next month to defend it.

Note: The next day trip planned is to Lam Lukka golf course on Monday the 10th of August.  Vans will be leaving the bar at 7 a.m. sharp so if you are interested in coming along give Bob a call on 082 204 3411.
