Sailors dived from the sky, rather than into the sea, as they competed against police in the Royal Thai Navy’s 49th Thailand Parachuting Championship.

Adm. Pongthep Nuthep presided over the May 2 opening ceremony for the competition organized by the navy and Royal Thai Police office.  Marines, anti-aircraft gunners, local government officials and police joined in the event at the parade grounds of the Sattahip Naval Base.

Pongthep said the competition was aimed at creating and strengthening unity, harmony and skills in parachuting.

“It is hoped that all parachutists will be able to express fully their abilities and maintain spirit and sincere sportsmanship to create a good reputation,” he said.
